Eddie Van Halen passed today after a long battle with cancer per his son.

I remember the first time I heard VH

1978 in a '69 Mustang. I could not believe my ears...neither could my classical music loving neighbor!

RIP Eddie

I remember the first time I heard this, in the back of my brother's van at 4am on the way to Sunset Beach for dawn patrol on a school day... 3 beers deep...

Rest In Peace Eddie

I know what's me up right now... Eddie and Alex are brothers, and this music is something my brother introduced me to.

God damn it, I miss him.

Wow. My shop foreman told me just before we clocked out a bit more than an hour ago.

Eruption immediately came to mind. Came home too late to not find my copy of the first album. Probably would've further damaged my hi-fi a bit.

Despite last nights wind knocking out my internet, I hot-spotted my phone, connected the laptop and then miracast that over to the theater system. It was worth whatever data I used to have spent last evening sipping margaritas and going back over his body of work. I only saw VH live once in 1988, but wow.. just wow.

I saw them WAY back in 1981 on May 20th at the Charleston Civic Arena. Its pretty cool you can look up old tour dates. I could remember the year and where but not the exact date. I was 14 at the time and VH was always on the turn table. Between my brother and I, we had them on 8 track, Vinyl... then cassette and I'm sure I have a couple of CD's laying around the house.
Wish I still had that concert T-Shirt! (no chance it would fit now)

2020 can suck it...

Saw them at Folsom field (Boulder, CO) summer of 1986. When offered a free ticket, I said I wouldn’t walk across the street to see David Lee Roth. Had no idea they had dropped Roth and had signed Sammy.

Wow, what a show!!!!

RIP EVH

Been playing VH all day, finishing up the David Lee Roth era shortly.

Me and the dogs, working from home today.

I fronted a hard rock band in the early and mid 80's at at a time when if you played Van Halen well you always had an audience. I just put Van Halen II on the turntable and broke out some old pictures to take a walk down memory lane.EVH was a big influence.Everybody wanted to play like him but nobody really could.

Sad. He was by all accounts a truly decent man.

One of my all time favorite hard rock bands. Just good fun rock music. Lots of great memories.

I've got one guitarist I work with, who can hammer out Eruption note for note, and just about anything else Eddie did. It's amazing to watch just the hand-work involved in making those sounds - truly amazing. I really hope we can get back out and start doing shows again - Maryland has reopened to 75% capacity and the weather is still nice enough to do outdoor gigs, so I'm after all my guys to start practicing again and lets BOOK SOME GIGS.

I can guarantee we'll have tributes to Eddie at every show. One band may do a song...another band may do a whole set. But you're right - play it well, and EVERYONE dances and has fun when the band is crankin' out classic VH!

Okay, I have to brag just a little. Here’s a video of my son and some friends playing “Hot for Teacher” about 10 years ago when he was attending the Atlanta Institute of Music. My son (Eli) is playing the yellow guitar on the right.

Every time I ask my guys to play Teacher, the drummers give me the stinkeye... I tell 'em "play it EARLY in the set, before you get tired!!"

Damn old bastards...gettin lazy in their sunset years...

I'd sacrifice a kidney to mix a show like that.

My.
God.

What a crowd...and I love me some stand-up bass.
