Joe, As far as I know, most departments have maximum age requirements. I've considered volunteering as a reserve cop. I like directing traffic and riot duty.
I loved the Tom Swift Jr. books & found a few of the older ones with his Dad.
The funny part, to me, is how much the commercials remind me of the original Robocop. Obviously the writers/director had seen defense industry commercials. I think of the voice actress... Delivering those lines in such a cheerful way.
I have put together everything for my girlfriend's G42...TLR-6 light/laser, +1 base pad, ETS 9rd magazine, holster, etc. Now I'm just missing the gun.
I'm probably selling off a spare AR-15 lower. No use for it.
I'm waiting on thermal epoxy and thermal paste to upgrade the emitter on my TLR-2.
I recently held a gun cleaning class for the local group of lady shooters. While everyone seemed to have fun with it, I doubt any of them will actually follow through in maintaining their firearms themselves. Also, their gun handing skills were atrocious to the point that I was legitimately fearing for my life at times.
I've fired the full size UZI, a UMP45, and a 5.56mm AK full auto. They were all meh.
In the military I used the M16A2, M249 SAW, M240G, M2, and MK19. They were all eh. The M249 being lightweight and with a high rate of fire could be finicky. The MK19 with poor maintenance and bad ammo had the potential to be deadly to the user, as one of our guys found out. He lost partial use of a leg and I believe lost a testicle, IIRC.
For my own purposes a well aimed shot or few will handle most problems.
I've heard the FN FAL in full auto was a waste and that the troops preferred the semi-auto version better. I have a semi-auto version and it shoots great but even as heavy as it is the recoil, which isn't bad at all, still causes rise enough that it takes a split second to get it back on target. In full auto it would cycle faster than you could get it back down. Now a young man in good shape could do a better job than my 62 year old ass but still not easy.
A. Battle rifle cartridges, full auto, in a rifle weight gun, required training and strength to be useful. & otherwise were far better semi auto.
2. Most Armies won't spend the time and money to so train.
The Germans developed the 8mm short ( Kurtz ) intermediate cartridge to fix that issue. ( more power and range than a pistol cartridge used in submachine guns, less power & recoil than a Battle Rifle... ( .303, .30-06, 8mm Mauser ))
The rest, as they say, is history.
I was a big fan of the Thompson. Until I got to shoot a semi-auto version and found it really heavy and ergonomically horrid. Still a cool, iconic gun. But I no longer want one.
The FAL may be, along with the G-3/CETME, the ultimate development of the Battle Rifle. Obsolete, but often the power is missed when dealing with concrete block buildings in the Middle East and crapistans.
While I try to stay informed, every now and then something new shows up. While reading a story about firearm sales to black folks in the recent months, I discovered another situation.
So, just in case I'm not the only one who missed it, please be sure to check on U.S. House resolution HR5717.
Then let your reps and senators know what you think of it.
HR5717 looks like a redundancy to me. It looks like a FEDERAL owner license...but there is a subsection that says the rules don't apply if you already have a license from a state that matches the rule-set in the resolution text.
I don't like the addition of "ammunition" to the licensing requirement.
Further down (section OO), it does mention a federal ERPA ("red flag") provision...
My eyes are crossing from reading the legal-ese. This looks ugly.
My racing partner asked me if I wanted to go to a party in his neighborhood. A neighbor down the street was having a shooting party. Just bring beer and guns. So we went and met up with 4 cops who served together as Marine MP's. The other one was an Air Force Paratrooper with one combat jump. These guys were FUN! So here's the armament table, enjoy!
The longest rifle was my FN FAL. I also brought a 1940 Luger action Mauser and my squirrel gun, a Ruger Mark I target with the 5" bull barrel, thumb rest grips and Clark trigger. One guy had an AR pistol with a 7" barrel! That was loud!
Introduced in House (01/30/2020) Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act of 2020
This bill makes various changes to the federal framework governing the sale, transfer, and possession of firearms and ammunition. Among other things, the bill does the following:
generally requires individuals to obtain a license to purchase, acquire, or possess a firearm or ammunition; raises the minimum age—from 18 years to 21 years—to purchase firearms and ammunition; establishes new background check requirements for firearm transfers between private parties; requires law enforcement agencies to be notified following a firearms-related background check that results in a denial; creates a statutory process for a family or household member to petition a court for an extreme risk protection order to remove firearms from an individual who poses a risk of committing violence; restricts the import, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices; restricts the manufacture, sale, transfer, purchase, or receipt of ghost guns (i.e., guns without serial numbers); makes trafficking in firearms a stand-alone criminal offense; requires federally licensed gun dealers to submit and annually certify compliance with a security plan to detect and deter firearm theft; removes limitations on the civil liability of gun manufacturers; allows the Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue safety standards for firearms and firearm components; establishes a community violence intervention grant program; and promotes research on firearms safety and gun violence prevention.
a lot of gun grab type of legislation here especially the "assault weapon" stuff, red flag, and gun manufacture related.
I have a question about OWB holsters. Specifically One that places the holster an inch or more away from your body / love handles. This would be for open carry. I trying to find one, but am having trouble. Any suggestions.
