Update.... My beautiful bike has been found, recovered and is now back in my possession! I am thankful to the NM Auto theft division and the shop owner who did the right thing and ran a VIN check on it. I never took a payout from my insurance company in hopes it would be recovered (in fact I've been paying insurance on it since it was stolen (I didn't have the heart to uninsure it)). Sometimes good things happen. Its an awfully colored black now (someone painted over the 3K paint job with a spray can), needs some TLC and some of the nice bits have been removed, but its mine and I cant wait to restore her. I am in Tokyo now but upon my return from this contract, she'll be eating roads in NM up... Here to a win for those of us Buell lovers out there. Thank you gentlemen; I don't care who took it, karma's always an equalizer. I paid the small business shop owner that actually ran the VIN instead of passing it on (it had changed hands 4 times in 13 months) 3K to cover the money he paid for it so he wasn't out of pocket. Which in my mind was a bargain, you can see from my other thread I was offering $7500 as a reward in Jan of 2019. 7% is roughly the bike recovery rate in that area, I feel very blessed. |

That's great news! I'm very happy for you. Between you getting your S1 back and the positive news about the chloroquine being the magic bullet for the Chinese virus. today is definitely starting out on a very upbeat note! Congratulations again! |

If that shop is any good at wrenching, I'd stick like glue to them I'm very happy to hear this good news! |

So... we need to see what she looks like now. Then it would be nice if you posted up every once in a while to show us the progress as you get her back to this:

Well here a pic of the condition she's now in (if you can zoom in, that's a black spray can paint job). It'll be several years before I can get to a restoration as I'll be over here in Tokyo for at least 4 more years (but then I can retire). My other bikes in the Buell collection (her 6 sisters and one BMW) are all professionally stored along with my hoarding of S1 and S2 parts so upon my permanent return rest assured the bike will be restored. It was in worse shape in 2001 when I returned from Okinawa (she sat outside in that climate for three years). I bought the bike new in Jan 1996 in Pensacola FL. 12 minutes after I left the dealership I was pulled over after a stop light for unintentionally popping a wheelie in front of a Fort Walton Beach police cruiser. I had to show him the sales paperwork and plead with him that my introduction to Buell torque was really to blame (the Air Force Special Operations way: deny, deny, deny, counter-accuse). The bike has been a joy ever since. Alex N

Thankfully they didn’t trash the rear subfender. |

Yeah, I trimmed that down myself in 97. I'm not much of a mechanic, even less of a body guy. But think you can see here the curved part meets the straight part, my hand wavered resulting in a small curve cut. First place I looked when the police sent me pictures to confirm it was mine. |

You have recovered a piece of artwork. Take your time and restore it. |

Great news, very pleased for you! It looks in better condition than I imagined it would. Did the 3 extra "owners" not add many miles? Rear tire still looks good and the bike stayed in NM area? |

That's a different tire. |

Both correct, that is a different tire and the current ones don't have much wear. The bike only had 7200ish miles and I replace tires a lot as I have the bike in an out of storage due my travel history. That new set (the ones that are still on there) I put on three weeks earlier after pulling the bike out of storage while I was in the Congo flying for the UN. You know what, I never even asked my buddy to check the mileage.. Ironically I normally ride one of these two and they were safely chained next to my truck the day I left again short notice on a trip. My mistake was I failed to chain the red one before I ran out the door...

Can't believe you got your bike back! I love seeing what everyone else has done with their bikes I "need" one of these...

Mark- I wonder if Charlie or someone else here who works with carbon fiber might be able to replicate that piece? |

Wolfridgerider: Yeah as you can see that's one of the bits the thief either took or broke on mine. I was able to fine an original replacement on ebay although if someone was to replicate a piece in carbon fiber for you all the better! And since you are interested in set up, I'll include the rest of my S1 bikes. The red one you see here I bought post theft as a "replacement." My plan was to create a clone of the original. Now I am happy she can stay with her own look as the gentleman from Oklahoma that I bought her from intended. I've bought all these (minus the original plus the 1125) and a gorgeous S2 in yellow from awesome BWBs on this site. I hope eveyone is staying safe out there...

My bigger problem right now is finding a timing cover replacement. I am not sure how they broke the one on my bike, but you can see from the "after" pictures that they managed to. I have a request out on the wanted classified section, but if anyone knows where one is available for sale, I'm interested |
