Costco update: the cart corral is half empty and the line stretches around the building.
I don’t know about Costco, but Sam’s has an app where you can scan each item as you get it and check yourself out and pay online when your through. It’s saved us days of waiting in the last couple of years. I bet Costco has one too. You can probably download it and check yourself out faster than you can get through a line.
If people buy so much toilet paper due to coronavirus imagine how much money pharmacy company can make if the company will have invented cure against coronavirus.
Crusty simply cites Islamic law. It's the way in a desert culture before commercial TP where water is for drinking, not washing.
Remember the scene in Lawrence of Arabia? Big meeting of tribal leaders, and one flicks his Left thumb in his teeth at another? Who then reacts as if slapped? It basically means "you eat feces".
I don't recommend that insult, or desert hygiene technique, but it's historically and currently a real practice.
Lines for checkout are back to the freezers. Some lady on her cell phone yelling," They are out of TP!" Good thing I'm not there. I would be the guy running circles around her cart shouting. "Aunty M!, Aunty M!, It's a twister!" I can't believe I haven't been assaulted more often.
Like any "prepper" talk, many people have silly ideas what would be good trade goods and also be a non perishable thing you'd actually use when the end of the world happens later than planned.
TP isn't a silly item. Yeah, it's the day's silly fad, but it's an industrial product that will cease to exist if X ( emp strike/Solar super flare/plague/Bernie ) and so worth having a modest, month+ stock.
Also I'd suggest feminine hygiene products, disposable lighters, and batteries. Anything you do use and others will be desperate for.
Afaik, no one has written a post apocalyptic novel where the hero gathered a willing and eager harem because he was wise enough to have a stockpile of feminine napkins and condoms. ( Heinlein's Farnham's Freehold is the closest. also a great description of a well designed shelter. Several of Dean Ing's books are excellent for ideas. )
Work just declared no site to site travel. I can’t even go to the other buildings on the campus. I wish they’d get it over with and say work from home if you can.
