How much is corruption and how much is self preservation is unknown. I suspect the Generals would frown if she didn't defend their actions. Myanmar is a messed up land with a brutal past they hopefully can recover from. My uncle fought there in the Marines. It might be less deadly today, at least for tourists. Still not a honeymoon spot IMHO. Hoot has the essential point. The two religious group's leaders have long used each other, and been openly hostile. Sometimes simultaneously. The Chinese government has a big oil deal with Iran. God King & Mullahs is pretty incompatible. But they can use each other to screw their enemies. Russia & Syria & Iran & Hezbollah ditto. It's obvious to everyone, especially the parties involved, that eventually the knives go into backs and each thinks they'll be last man standing. The betrayal is inevitable. Just a question of who has the best timing. ( that optimism isn't shared by me ) After a century of Left vs. West, it's hard to believe the real bloody conflict of the first half of the 21st century might be Left vs. Islam. Now, it's looking like it may be unavoidable. And these things happen sooner than expected, always. | ||
