Does anyone know why people cover up the license plates in their photos? I'm sure that there's a reason for it but I can't think of what it might be. |

When the vehicle is stolen they cover license plate so nobody can recognize. |

Another common reason is fraud. If somebody has similar vehicle, same color, same model, especially powerful vehicle or sport motorcycle, he can make fake license plate with same number and use it to brake the law. All tickets will go to you. (Message edited by TPEHAK on March 04, 2020) |

One more reason is privacy and free speech. There are some people in internet who has access to government data bases including license plate numbers and owners with addresses. Some of them may not like what you talk in internet, so they can see your license plate, check it in their list they have access to and they can got you unlawful manner. You will not even know who shattered all windows in your car. |

Yup, and one of those methods is to hide the license plate on the pictures you post. Ideally you have to put wrong information about your identity everywhere in the internet on your accounts. License plate is not the only way to got you. |

...but nobody sees your license plate when the vehicle is out on the road...? Makes zero sense to me. |

There are so many, much easier, ways to find out somebody's address - I just don't see why anybody would go through the trouble of using license plate information to do so. To each his own... obscure your plate, or don't. Matters not to me. |

I'll put my finger over the license plate while I take a picture that logs the date/time/location and then post the for sale ad with my name and phone number and email. I might even put in the VIN, lol. Ya, I feel safer now. |

You gentlemen have convinced me. If I ever sell another motorcycle I'll zip tie a rubber chicken over the license plate. Better safe than sorry! |

If I ever sell another motorcycle I'll zip tie a rubber chicken over the license plate. If you sell a rubber chicken, will you tie a motorcycle to it? (I don't know if you have to register rubber chickens in your state) |
