It's not 50%. Good grief, that would be Ebola territory bad. There would be over a Billion dead in China alone. 11,000 admitted cases. Over 200 dead, and 250 beat the virus and are now immune, and can go back to work. That's only 2% as of that moment, and the numbers will change.
It's also bull, since there are many more, both deaths and sick people. The last numbers looked like 5%, which is pretty bad. Flu bad. It could be much higher, 10%+ but it would be kinda obvious if half the people died, even China, Facebook, and Google would have a hard time covering that up. ( and they are trying to hide how bad this is now )
I know all about statistics. Well, a little. Ok, just a tiny bit. I only made a living as a Statistical Process Control guy. ( expert would be bragging, Manager would be putting on airs... Minion, that's close ) I know all about how to lie with statistics. Or show Truth.
It's one reason I have contempt for the Climate Con.
Deaths by natural causes takes thousand times more every day in china. Everybody gonna die at some point(some already twice dead) in time. It's not 'Living' but where you go when you take your 'Last Breath'.
No insult at all intended, but any numbers the Communist Party in China issues on population and death is undoubtedly lies. But, hey! That's the best anyone gets.
Some dead in the hospitals are sent straight to the crematorium on buses without paper work. Another thing done in China when a patient dies with a pre-existing heart condition aggravated by the virus their cause of death will be listed as heart failure not corona virus.
I didn't start threads on the other 2 coronavirus outbreaks. The Novel coronavirus however concerns me. Enough that I started a thread on it. Enough that I stocked up on meds.
Fear death? Oh! That's why I wear a parachute when I fly. ( except on airlines, they get all nervous. ) If you like, you can consider that a lack of confidence in my skills. I prefer to think I know I'm just a leaf in the wind.
Gravity is a harsh Mistress.
Unless this is a biowar agent, deliberate murder is a different subject.
In my last job I was daily exposed to the germs from all over the planet. China, Iran, Botswana, even Canada! I caught a couple of "colds" a year, got vaccinated against pneumonia, and got my flu shot yearly. ( that only covers last year's flu & the best guess of which strain will come out of China next. But worked pretty good for me )
I'm in the age group where these things kill people, and have plenty of ailments unrelated to plagues, because of an intemperate life & poor choices.
Also decades of very low level first aid volunteering, all too often the first to stop & help at a car or motorcycle accident.
So I like to keep track of the latest epidemic. I haven't pried open a car door and turned to run because the passenger has bleeding from the eyes, yet. It would be just my luck to try and rescue the stereotypical movie victims of a biowar accident. ( car crash )
Almost every time, the yearly wave of disease just kills a few thousand and it's not a mass disaster. As was so indelicately put, people die of natural causes all the time. The heartache is retail. Immediate family and friends. We're used to it.
We probably shouldn't be.
Anyhoo... Every century or so the yearly wave is a virulent strain, and death goes wholesale. We're due.
I try and sort out the hype, panic, and risks. It's harder than it should be because... China. The Glorious Leaders are infamous for covering up their crimes and failures.
So every year we watch the flu, and periodically we watch the panic from Ebola ( because of that movie ) and SARS ( because of that movie ) and wait for the inevitable release of a biowar bug to decimate the planet. ( because of that movie )
