If the spring was that tweaked...makes me wonder about the rest of the gun. Have a picture of it in current condition? My H&K with light/laser. 20191218_074313 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr P80 with a TLR-7 that ended up on a long gun, instead (the activation button was a loong reach). 20191122_130134 by Slick_Rick77, on Flickr |

Rick a, I don't have a shot of it right now. I would consider it in good shape. The bluing is pretty nice considering it's age except on the grip straps, it's worn there. The numbers all match. If you look at the spring guide above you can see the flaky crust that's on it. The whole gun looked like that but it cleaned up well. I would rate it somewhere between good and average. |

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/12/90- of-virginias-counties-are-gun-sanctuaries.php The sanctuary city thing hasn't caught on in New York, afaik. I can only speculate why. In no particular order, the Governor is a vindictive man, cutting off state funding for road repair to counties that didn't majority vote for him. I can only imagine the results of a county declaring they would refuse to cooperate with his whims on gun control. Freeze school funds? Block roads? Several Sheriff departments have quietly stated they want nothing to do with illegal search and seizure operations, but openly defying the State government wouldn't gain them anything. Pro rights Sheriffs would be reelected in pro rights counties, anyway. Red flag unconstitutional gun theft is law in NY. While I anticipate this being abused in the near future, so far it's a credible threat to anyone who attracts attention. OTOH, I also speculate that there are millions of scofflaws already quietly living in NY just waiting for the 3 a.m visit by the Governor's minions. So it's already an unstable situation that is concerning for us law abiding citizens. Open uncivil war wouldn't be pretty, and would accomplish nothing good. Heck, at least Cuomo hasn't threatened to nuke Upstate Cities. |

How can Herring say a word about following the law, when the 2nd Amendment says "shall not be infringed" and he wants to infringe without lawfully following the rules for amending the US Constitution set forth in Article V? Virginia's state constitution reads: "Article I. Bill of Rights Section 13. Militia; standing armies; military subordinate to civil power That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power." |

They're going to hide behind the "in time of peace" section. Especially as a defense against the Sheriff's plan to deputize en masse... This is getting ugly. People need to go by the law - not pick and choose either way, on either side. |

We watched Fury last night and the Brad Pitt character was carrying a weapon that I didn't recognize. This is the only image that I could find. It is fairly long and had a curved magazine. Any ideas? edit: I dug deeper and it is a Sturmgewehr 44. (Message edited by ducbsa on December 28, 2019) (Message edited by ducbsa on December 28, 2019) |

The grandfather of all real assault rifles...not to be confused with "assault weapon," which is, of course, a political construct. I've come across a one in person. Kinda cool, but awkward and a bit flimsy feeling despite its weight compared to more modern weaponry. |

It is an advanced, disposable weapon. The life expectancy of a MP44/Stg44 ( the name changed, same thing ) in combat was weeks, at most months. That's a stark contrast to the Mauser & Other bolt action rifles which we expect to last generations. And not because of the construction technology. They just accepted that nice, reliable machines were heavy and the priority is different when the enemy is pushing and you've lost more army than you started the war with. Not a last ditch, emergency gun. The Stem fits that description. A well made, but limited lifespan tool. By then certain decision makers had come to realize that the German over engineering we curse to this day in things like bus engines, ( if you are a bus mechanic ) was giving them the WRONG combination of cost to produce in materials and labor and tooling. The best/worst example is probably German tanks. The famous Tiger was a deadly, well protected, clever POS. The odds on you driving one from one end of Germany to the other, slowly and carefully, without Major maintenance work, like replacing the transmission, we're near zero. The overlapping road wheels distributed weight well, gave extra side armor protection, and both required unbolting many wheels to repair/replace one damaged one, and had an enormous number of narrow gaps for mud to harden and snow to freeze, and a huge surface area for frozen mud & show to grip. If you were trying to design a track system that self clogged and locked up, with the maximum time and effort to fix, you'd be hard pressed to do better. You have to cut a little slack on the fragile transmissions, everyone had trouble when they used gear boxes meant for a 25 ton tank and used them on heavier ones. Tigers were very heavy. But the rush to production didn't let them De-bug & improve as needed. Ultimate super tanks that take So much time and materials you can't make enough to win, are bad decision making. So, it's not the choice to use pressed sheet steel ( cheaper alloys needed, faster production ) that make the Stg44 a flimsy short lifespan gun. The FAL and AR-18 don't have that problem. It's a deliberate choice to make more, cheaper & lighter, at the expense of longevity. |

I've had someone tell me how absurd it was that semi automatic handguns could be so trouble free over their lifetimes while rifles with similar mileage required a lot more attention. You're typically nearly doubling the pressure and tripling the muzzle energy and velocity on relatively small and lightweight operating components. At any rate, on a modern firearm like an AR-15 it's nothing to replace a bolt and barrel. On something like an AK, meant to be replaced in its entirety, it's a bit more difficult. A press, some light machine work, and sometimes welding can keep one going almost indefinitely. Handguns will have frames and slides fail at some point, and a properly maintained gun with have periodic spring replacements...though most people neglect such things entirely. |

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BU4dylBdEnk https://blklblbipod.com Free float front tube with integrated bipod. Adds a pound, but so does every bipod ( Harris ) I've tried that is solid and stable. Pricy. Hmm, I'd have to budget that, expensive. I'm often jealous here looking at things I'm illegitimately legally forbiden. No NFA stuff allowed, and assault on rights restrictions & persecution. So I tend to consider rifles more in the target/varmint category when shopping for a replacement for my old Varminter. Which this would have been the perfect solution for. And the Sako TRG factory bipod is only $30 cheaper than the blk lbl. And the BBLK LBL is not a brush grabbing wart hanging out there. Do I need a Ruger Precision Rifle far more capable than I am? No. But I currently don't have a long range gun for target shooting. One of the 6.5 mm long range guns would be perfect for hunting 'chucks out on the river flats, which is one of the few local areas where actual long range shots are possible. Experience tells me they are often only visible on the far side edge of a farmer's field. Sometimes 2-3 fields away. A .22 doesn't cut it out that far. Just thought you'd like to see a clever new product. |

I've long been an advocate of concealed carry in public. Open carry just invites trouble, makes sissies around you bite their fingernails, and gives zero tactical advantage. |

On the "paper targets can kill you" thing, any marksmanship training is better than none. Seeing how the vast majority of shooters do on the square range, most people need all the practice they can get. Unless you're doing force on force with simmunitions or using a remotely controlled robotic target carriage, it's tough to replicate real world conditions. I do Nerf, but the leads for a moving target don't correlate to real world conditions. I generally conceal carry big guns. They're easy to shoot, but tough to hide. Usually those that can tell you're carrying aren't much of a worry. Most people are completely oblivious to the typical carry signs. I did wear a white tee with a VP9 under to at Walmart once. Nobody noticed...or they pretended not to. |

I do carry a subcompact - I'm a scrawny guy so I don't have a lot of body to hide a full-frame pistol. And I practice enough to stay proficient with it. Some people don't like the XDs; I don't care. It works very well as MY gun, and I make sure I stay as competent as possible with it, in case I ever do have to use it in public. I hope I never do...but if that need arises, I want to do the best I can. Which is why I "cheat" with my Viridian laser. Some look at it as cheating - I'm OK with that. I practice without it, on the off-chance it doesn't light for some reason, so I stay proficient with iron sights and overall muscle memory...but it's a nice extra assist. Place dot, pull trigger, make hole. That said, at the range a couple weeks ago with a buddy, I did shoot my subcompact better than he shot his full-frame Kimber. We won't even get into how he did with my pistol...that was ugly. But, he's a hobbyist and does not carry so I guess that's OK. He's a believer in the "size (caliber) over accuracy" school of thought; until we shot, he thought my subcompact was a bit of a joke. Once he saw me shoot with it, and compared our targets...he clammed up. I admit I did shoot quite well with his Kimber...but there's no way I'd conceal-carry it. Not just the size, but the weight. And, it's a full-frame .45...but a single-stack, so it only carries as much as my subcompact 9mm. I don't get it. I really don't want to open carry in a gun-un-friendly state such as Maryland - I have yet to have anyone call me out when I'm carrying concealed (nor have I been "reported"), but I agree wholeheartedly with the statement from above: Open carry just invites trouble, makes sissies around you bite their fingernails, and gives zero tactical advantage. If people know you're carrying, and they have bad intentions...you are now target number one, because you're the guy who can fight back. WIDESPREAD open carry would be a different story - and I firmly believe a return to manners in today's society - but I don't hold any hope that will happen anytime soon outside of small pockets of sanity here and there. |

Some people don't like the XDs; I don't care If it functions reliably and accurately, It's a good weapon for you. Open carry just invites trouble, makes sissies around you bite their fingernails, and gives zero tactical advantage. All the tactical advantage in the world if it is in my holster on the outside of my clothes. The draw is clean, smooth, and on target as it clears the holster. If it is in the open, I am hyper aware of those around me. Wide spread open carry starts with us few. I try to open carry on the second of each month. I don't walk through downtown Indianapolis with my AR slung, but I will put my 1911 on a hip and dress to blend in with the plaid and dockers crowd. It is not an ugly Glock assaulting the aesthetics of the mocha sucker's environments.

I'm amazed to see this on the Today Show feed. Usually the MSM stays totally clear of reality like this. Six seconds. And that's why citizens should be allowed to carry. https://www.today.com/news/hero-who-stopped-texas- church-shooter-speaks-out-t170874 And an earlier, local report on the same incident: https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2019/12/29/2 -dead-1-in-critical-condition-after-reported-shoot ing-at-church-in-white-settlement/ “We lost two great men today, but it could have been a lot worse, and I am thankful our government has allowed us the opportunity to protect ourselves,” said Britt Farmer, the church’s senior minister. God bless those who were lost. And a big to the hero who stopped the shooter, before he could take any more innocent lives. |
