Henry was pro German before the war, and not a fan of the English. There's a story there, but I forgot it. Once we were at war, he did his patriotic best.
The Willow Run plant, a brand new Ford property meant to make new cars, made thousands of B-24 bombers at an astonishing rate, although QC was an issue. A WASP pilot I knew picked one up for delivery there, ( she mostly delivered fighters ) and the line supervisor showed her to her plane then walked away. ( sexist and/or jerk ) While running it up she noticed something wrong and found the aileron controls were reversed. Shut down, walked to the line shack, and decked him.
Feisty little broad. Learned a lot from her, and she didn't suffer fools. At all.
I was running tow line, wing tips, etc."sweeping the hanger", at the glider port. ( how broke kids get rides ) She offered me a ride in the tow plane, let me fly it back towards the airport, then took the controls, kicked us into a snap roll, into a spin, then let go with "your bird!".
The regulars told me later that was how she chose her students. If they didn't freak out or puke, you had a shot. I got real good at spin recovery. She had more time in P-40s than most line pilots.
Charles Lindbergh was a pacifist before Pearl Harbor. And was given the full hero tour of the Luftwaffe, as part of a disinformation campaign that included the French high command. ( meant to exaggerate German Air power, a major propaganda and hoax, that succeeded big ) When he returned, he warned our Air Corps was behind. ( true ) and his pacifism royally torqued off FDR, so he resigned/was pushed out of, his reserve commission. He flew in the Pacific as a tech rep for Vought, teaching Marines how to get the best out of their new Corsairs, then helped the Air Corps with cruise control techniques. ( that allowed the aerial assassination of Admiral Yamamoto, who was visiting a base "out of range" of American fighters. ) Flew some bootleg combat missions too. Who's going to say no to Lindy? ( until he got ordered to stop ) Which is a whole story of it's own.
First impressions. Don't trust them. There's more history than in school books.
Leno had Damon on a recent episode, I was impressed with what I saw and what he said about the process and the film. Having met Carroll a couple of times, I look forward to seeing the film.
I miss that guy. Wish I'd gotten to know him better.
Looking forward to several films. Motherless Brooklyn should be awesome. Ed Norton seems to have morphed his character from "The Score" into this new role. If you've not seen that one, check it out, very good performances all around.
Please, quit. Save that stuff for their relatives that think it is cute. Give the kid a good set of drums and have them play notes. Have them play hard pieces. I have known two really great drummers that play music. There is a difference. /rant{off}
