I had the 2000 model, which was identical except for the paint. I had a real love/hate relationship with that bike. One of the best all around/do anything motorcycles I've ever owned since my 1985 BMW K100, but the damned thing spent almost as much time in the shop as it did in my garage. I still miss it, though. https://www.motorcycle.com/features/church-of-mo-1 999-buell-m2-cyclone.html |

As cheap as they are now, you should entertain picking up another one. |

I have absolutely no talent for mechanical things, and there isn't any place I can think of around here that works on them... |

The M2 Cyclone is the best, of course. I say that unbiased just 'cause I have one. I'm a machinst, but not a mechanic on any kind of pro level. Cyclones are as easy as a lawnmower to work on. The carb is easy, mostly you ignore it except when the gas & sta bill combine into plastic foam as it's sat over a year. Any competent Sportster mechanic can handle clutch etc. Repairs, and there's little else to go wrong. One ignition black box. A few sensors/switches for sidestand, etc. Nothing else, no computers, etc. |

I had a 2000 M2 and put over 55,000 miles on it. It was a good bike and gave me very little trouble, but it never excited me the way my S3-T did. I still think that the S3-T is one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever made. If it ran as well as it looked, I'd probably still be riding it. |

When I hit the lottery, I'll look for one of those, a Karmann Ghia drop top, and a pre-79 Datsun Z. Gotta have dreams. |

A twofer:
I haven't been able to bring myself to pull the trigger on it on eBay. I likely already have a copy... |

That photo of me and my S3-T was taken on New Year's Day 1999 just outside of Redbones BBQ in Somerville, Mass. by Leslie Prevish. I go out for a ride every New Year's Day, and Leslie and Leigh Hudson met me there for lunch. |

Rather rakish in your youth, John. Life is good! If that M-2 was an S1-W things would have been very different... |
