Well...Dem policies ARE bringing back things like Typhus, and - coming soon - Bubonic Plague! Just look at SF, LA, Portland...all the tent cities really ARE bringing back long-dead (or at least dormant) mass diseases. It's actually the most credible thing she's said. Obscure diseases long since conquered in industrialized Western countries are making a come back from uncontrolled immigration, and the return in California to premedieval standards of public hygiene. Apparently, the leaders of that state are victims of really poor education, and never learned the greatest advance mankind has made against disease is sewers. Not defecating in the streets is a clear dividing line between civilization and barbarism. Which is unfair to many cultures called Barbaric. Most of them understood the concept of out houses or toilet facilities. Even the most ancient. I admit medieval Europe really did go backwards in the Dark Ages, which were partly caused by Climate Change. And modern transportation has spread Ebola to cities, and it's only a matter of time before there are outbreaks in Europe and here. Luckily Ebola is tropical, and not very hardy in cold weather, & is actually very hard to pass from person to person. Some unknown but deadly virus released from the ice to lay waste to civilization? Possible. And there's no need for Global Warming. Glaciers flow! The icebergs that fall into the sea once were miles & thus centuries or millennia old by the time that ice reaches the sea. The mystery would be how the disease ended up in the ice. The oldest glaciers predate the last Ice Age, so it's possible nomadic tribes were in the wrong place & left such a legacy. Although I'd bet that a lost city in central America, Africa, or Southeast Asia, is a more likely scenario for ancient plague. We imagine we've explored the planet by now, but orbital pictures keep revealing lost villages under forest canopy & in deserts using multi spectral analysis. | ||

Correct. The Dark Ages were a Cold Bad Times phenomenon. The Danube river froze solid and the Germanic tribes, with push from starvation & further East tribes invading, poured across until they took Rome. Then malnutrition, plague, breakdown of transportation & governance, all the Cold Bad Times ills, continued for generations. Climate wasn't the only factor, Rome was in bad shape. They'd de-emphasized patriotism and service, the sons of the aristocracy weren't joining the service, so the Legions became filled with mercenaries, with no cultural connection to the Empire. Or real loyalty. There are several good books detailing the Fall. Decadence, perversion, a higher & higher percentage not gainfully employed, politicians exploiting the ignorant with free food & promises of free everything... Sounds familiar? Then Europe without the Empire to maintain the roads and patrol the seas, went down hill, economically, fast. And stayed down. Pretty much until Warm Times returned, growing crop yields allowed a population explosion, and increased leisure time grew the arts. Hard to paint masterpieces when 18+ hours a day are busy trying not to starve or freeze to death come fall. Your analysis of Sandy's honesty & rationality is correct as well. | ||

Nancy Pelosi fans, Trump fans, some guy who's upset that she thinks cauliflower is racist. I don't want anyone killed for politics. I was afraid that someone would assassinate the previous Prez, I read Tom Clancy. Crazy people shot at the White House, cashed planes on the lawn ( although that appears to be a crack & booze fueled suicide attempt with delusions of glory ) and we had that multiple assassination attempt on the R Congress softball team. I don't know the percentage of threats to attacks after a threat, I just know it's not zero. I guess it to be fairly high in Domestic conflict cases, and artificially low in the case of celebrities, because of body guards, security, and a higher probability to be actually investigated. Today, I'm actually more worried about the new flash mob persecution attacks being uses as cover for a crazy. When someone posts an address of someone's home and urges a mob to go protest. That someone might be a CNN reporter trying to get profitable footage...or an internet pundit, of any kind, paid by some organization or free lance. They don't have to show up, or be in the same hemisphere. Flash mobs, as interesting as a study might be, are obviously groups, not the general public. It's people that follow someone on social media, or go argue politics, or ride bikes. I've watched, over the years as Badweb generated small, friendly, flash mobs at BBQ joints, etc. So they are not bad, by nature. Some are ART! funny as heck, and some quite moving, when a bunch of musicians, or dancers, or cosplay organize a spectacle, or joke, in a public place.
