Yesterday, the Collings Foundation's B-17 G, the Nine Oh Nine Crashed at Bradley Airport in Connecticut killing seven people. The 9-0-9 was the B-17 that Bill, Ernie and I flew on back in 2013, and the crash really hits hard with me. There are now only 17 B-17s left flying in the USA, according to one report I read. It was a magnificent plane and my heart goes out to those who died in the accident. Here's a link to one news article: https://www.courant.com/breaking-news/hc-br-windso r-locks-bradley-international-airport-plane-crash- 20191002-jfkph65krrfhxlrlb3eehksdiu-story.html |

I was in that very plane Sunday when they stopped in Nashua NH. My friend and I were joking that we'd want a parachute if we were to ride in a plane that old. Obviously, parachutes would not have helped the people in this crash. Sad and tragic all around. |

How did you guys manage to get a ride on it? The Collings Foundation was offering flights for $425.00/ person. It was a magnificent experience; shared with my two oldest friends. That weekend was the last time Ernie and I saw Bill. He died about six months later. |

Had a chance to ride a B-17, 10 or 12 years ago. Passed but bought 10rds each for me and a buddy on a Ma Deuce a couple of years later. I'm good... |

The Commemorative Air Force (formerly the Confederate Air Force) has two of them. Many of you may remember that I coordinated the transport to and from the port of Los Angeles during the export and subsequent import of their A6M3 Zeke aircraft back in 2010 before I moved to Georgia. I'd really love to ride in a B-17 before I croak, or the last of these historical aircraft are permanently grounded. It's a real shame to lose one of these, and a tragedy for all involved. |
