Working on a home project needing an AC motor. I scrounged this from a garage door opener. As you would guess, it was running bi-directional. I only need one direction, on/off. Black cylinder with red and blue wires is a starting capacitor. I tried putting power to the black/white wires. It appeared to short. Attached is a wire diagram (not sure if it is for this specific model but it appears to be wired very similarly, even down to the wire colors) Any suggestions on how to wire this without the controller board?

Pretty sure you need a controller board for it to work. Are you even sure the motor is AC? It could be the controller board simply cuts half the AC with diodes to control the direction. Beyond that, all I'm really sure of is that when you let the magic smoke out, they tend not to work anymore. There's some good youtube stuff on this subject. People like to do projects with motors taken from washers, driers, treadmills, door openers, etc. I was looking at some recently, trying to figure out a problem with my table saw motor. It's a one way AC motor though, so the little I learned isn't going to apply to a bi-directional motor. |
