My friend just got back from Italy and one of the highest end car shows in the world. All three banquets were black tie and there were billionaires and the millionaires that worked for them! My friend was always asked what he brought to the show, uh, rental? Anyway he met some very cool people there and brought me back a brochure of a new BMW motorcycle. There were bikes there too. He had dinner one night sitting next to one of the Ducati design team members! So here's a couple of pics off the brochure:

BMW has completely lost the plot. Now they're building garage jewelry. |

I didn't show all of the brochure. BMW Motorcycle Magazine said, "One of the most important, innovative and visually stunning BMW motorcycles ever produced" That's why I thought it was from BMW but Rat's right, it's an aftermarket conversion. I really like it for what it is. I always loved the old R7's. The way the frame went around the fuel tank was pure art. I'd rather have an original. Neat concept though. Practical? Nope. Fun? Could be! Worth 50 grand? Probably not. Depends on your income and garage space! |

Damn long wheelbase. For my money, I'm happy with my bike. Got a bead on a pair of auxillary fuel tanks to make it even kewler. Still, nice. |

BMW is working on an 1,800 boxer cruiser though (as stupid as that sounds). Those cylinders are going to look like wings on the side. Probably nowhere near the cornering clearance a traditional BMW would have, either. |

I've never liked cruisers in the first place, but that thing is "Fugly" with a Capital "F" in my eyes. |

I disagree. I think they should call it the Blimposaurus. It's huge and the drone from the engine will probably put you to sleep in short order. (Message edited by Crusty on June 18, 2019) |

BMW has completely lost the plot. Now they're building garage jewelry. It's interesting how Jamie is always so open in sharing his opinion. BMW is working on an 1,800 boxer cruiser though (as stupid as that sounds) See, he just did it again... Even though it may not be the bike (or scooter) for you, you seem to have missed the point. The point of BMW introducing a cruiser - as I truly admired Buell for with their Griffin project (which that Wandell effectively stifled) - is diversification. Maybe you were sleeping when BMW introduced the S 1000 RR? Same thing - going after new markets to increase their footprint. Good business practice! |

I will say that oilhead cruiser they made a while back was definitely fugly. I'd like to see this new one in person sometime. |

My 2015 R1200R is not the prettiest of bikes, but neither was my Ulysses. However, the smile per mile factor is equal.

The seat is so low on that 1800 cruiser that my knees would be banging my chin!! I'd have to put a little springer saddle about 6 inches higher! I think it looks pretty cool as a TT racer. Not something I'd take a trip on though. |

I got my Ulysses because it had a big back seat. Thought that would get my GF/now-wife to ride with me. Goofiest looking bike I have ever owned... She prefers to ride the couch and every time I ride the Uly, I love it more. Most useful m/c I've ever had... I love her. On the third or fourth set of tires. Z |

A modern R7 interpretation/replica... Nice. If win lotto.... Could be the centerpiece of my collection of things. I'd ride it too. The 1800 cruiser, I like. I'd have to see what the production version looked like, but I do like a bobber. Can't believe it will be that clean. Btw, what's under the shock on top of the engine? Needs a kick starter. Taste is taste. I like the old R-100's and a few other BMWs, and some are ugly. A boon companion has started building bobbers. New fanaticism. Yamaha 400 Maxim, Star 1200? V twin, XS1100 Special. |

Wow, that's impressive! Needs a headlight and a license plate holder yet! That would be fun to putt around on! Easy to clean too!! |

The 1800 cruiser is interesting, but a twin? That seems like a lot of mass going side to side while you’re trying to go forward. |

ah, but it does it by going in & out together, so no net sideways motion. There is up & down from the crank, though. But it should be balanced, unless they forgot everything they learned from making P&W radials under licence in the 1930's. |

You're likely to feel a lot of input from the torque when you hit the throttle with the crank being longitudinal in the frame. Certainly felt it in the wife's Guzzi. You could feel it big time in the Triumph Rocket III. You can certainly get used to it, but it certainly affects the handling, especially at slower speeds. |
