What is up with driver's that feel the need to wave out their window to tell you you can pass? First of all is, I am going to pass, when I think it is safe! It is like they are scared of having a motorcycle behind them. |

Maybe they are motorcyclists as well and want you to enjoy your ride with an open road in front of you instead of staring at the back of their cage? I've done that more times than I can count when a briskly moving bike comes up behind me......I always slide over as far as I can and wave them by. Do the same if I'm poking along on one of my motorcycles and someone comes up on me. I Usually get a wave back. Its rather common place when riding down South.....at least it has been for me when riding in and around NC/TN. I decided to bring the practice back North with me. |

People that are being nice? This is California, but that makes sense. They seem to have a panic look on their face though. And it is not like I am coming up from behind at top speed.... |

I get a similar reaction and 50% of the time, it's on a blind corner that I am not going to try and pass on even if they are giving me some room (not that there is much room on the roads I ride though). I pass when it's safe and give them a wave... |

When I had to drive my Lowe's delivery truck across the nice mountain roads I always pulled it over for motorcycles. I have(when on two wheels) been waived around as well on the same roads. |

" Its rather common place when riding down South.....at least it has been for me when riding in and around NC/TN. I decided to bring the practice back North with me." +1. Invariably, when I run through Deal's Gap, the folks in the know know to use the pull-offs to allow the rabbits their run. And, invariably, there are ai$$hats who are clueless and don't. My GMC truck has this sticker... methinks it works a pretty good percentage of the time, and I can tell quick when someone's unaware or simply an ai$$hat. https://www.amazon.com/Traffic-Reversed-Reading-Wi ndshield-Sticker/dp/B00EO9AABW/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2FZ 8A7LZ7GCW6&keywords=slower+traffic+keep+right+wind ow+decal&qid=1559586668&s=gateway&sprefix=slower+t raffic+%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-2 LOL! Went to scan the product reviews, forgot I was the first one to review! The one negative review is BS- the sticker is high-quality, die-cut, did great on my other truck. A fun conversation starter to boot. (Message edited by 86129squids on June 03, 2019) |

On my mountain road, the long time residents use turnouts for anyone that comes up on them. The newer folks have no idea what those blank pavement areas are used for or why there are so many people behind them flashing their lights and honking their horns. Oh, and the speed limit signs are for speeders... |

I have a lead foot.. love going fast. Nothing is better than having a "jack rabbit" flush out the speed traps. Wanna go faster than ME? OK, I'll follow. |

Not here. People will slow to a crawl around corners then get mad if you pass them. The number of people that don't know the basic rules of the road is also troubling. Just the other day a woman intruded into my lane as I went past her (she was some twenty to twenty five mph under the speed limit)...so I moved into the empty median momentarily to avoid being struck. A local cop gave me a ticket for not using a turn signal while performing the maneuver. Of course, he was being a belligerent, condescending jerk the entire time. It was very hard to keep my composure. |

While I can usually appreciate the sentiments, it drives me nuts when people think I can't pass easily enough, and drive onto the shoulder with their right wheels and kick up all the gravel and detritus back at me.

Coincidentally, I had an encounter that perplexed me yesterday. I was heading home on my road and a guy in front of me in an Accord gave some sort of waving gesture out his window. We were all moving along just under 10MPH over the speed limit. He didn't hunker over to the side or slow down or speed up. Then after about a quarter mile, he pushed in his clutch and absolutely dropped the hammer as hard as he could with a chirped tire, black soot from exhaust and he took off. Was it a race? I guess he won. I kept plodding along at 45 and then pulled in my driveway. I guess I lost the big race. Oh well. |

My main pet peeve is those drivers that are trying to be courteus (I guess) and jam on the brakes without using the blinker as they move to the side...so I really don't know if they are yielding, stopping, making a U-turn or turning left. The turn signal is a GREAT communication tool. One would think if a person has one iota of common sense they would use a turn signal if they are braking with a motorcycle close enough to make a pass. It's kind of scary people are this out of touch. In the vast majority of cases, turn signals should always go on BEFORE brake lights. It's pretty damn easy to let a bike pass. TURN ON SIGNAL, move to right, decel without using brakes (ie coast). The bike will be past in a second or two and both parties can go on their merry way. It shouldn't be difficult and the cage doesn't even have to slow down much if at all--just give some room. |

When I was riding in Canada many years ago I found that they would pull off on the shoulder to let anybody pass including other cars. The cars coming the opposite direction would do the same giving you a middle lane to pass. I heard it was illegal but everybody did it just the same. Courtesy! |

"blockers". I especially love when Waze pipes up "police reported ahead"...I'll move right and cancel the cruise control (if in the cage; roll off the throttle on a bike), and the tailgater who was behind me hammers the throttle and passes me as hard as they can. I watch, and grin. If, for some reason, they flipped me off as they blew past me, I'll toot-n-wave as I pass them on the shoulder, getting their driving award |

Most of the time I call them "bird dogs". same reasoning... Years ago, in a large city I won't name, I was almost at the end of my trip on my loud 650 Yamaha. I was doing 80 in a 55 and saw a cop with a Harley pulled over on the shoulder. He looked up and saw me and motioned me to pull over for a ticket. Gave him the finger and laughed all the way home.... what a maroon. Z |

From Wikipedia; Phycology (from Greek φῦκος, phykos, "seaweed"; and -λογία, -logia) is the scientific study of algae. Also known as algology, phycology is a branch of life science and often is regarded as a subdiscipline of botany. Algae are important as primary producers in aquatic ecosystems. |

I probably spell worse than you. I set the forum to check my spelling and I keep Google open in another screen so I can copy and paste from there. I was surprised to find phycology was a word and thought I would share. |
