Like Biden said about Obama, "he is clean and articulate" How was that not seen as racist? (Unclean and inarticulate) Jesse forgave him for making such a statement, "because he is down with the struggle." |

...it all started with quotas... Don't hire based on skills, you have to have X% women, or black, or latino. Don't admit to schools based on test scores, you have to have X% black, or women, or latino. Now, if you want any sort of meritocracy, you are....you guessed it...RACIST. (yawn) They keep forgetting that there is only ONE way to equalize everyone. And, it's NOT to bring up the lower segments. The only way to "equalize" a population...is to destroy the successful. To force everyone to be equally...miserable. But hey - it's equality! |

Not sure that I agree there, as this might set the stage for a mil take over.. You have to wonder she (cortex) graduated as an economics major, but has no idea how a bank or the banking system works. Listening to her reminds me of an excitable teen age girl ... NY lost the amazon deal, proof that elections have consequences. } |

Military takeover? Hardly. They would still have to be elected. And the US military doesn't think that way. However, I agree it’s a bad idea. I don’t want people in my military only there to further their political aspirations. Would be almost as bad as a draft. |

Oh? Read Starship Troopers. The movie was directed by a Dutch leftist who I don't think ever read the book. Heinlein was accused for decades of being a fascist and militarist, because of Starship Troopers. Military man, yes, he was what is now known as a Surface Warfare officer in the U.S. Navy before lung disease got him medically discharged. Fascist? Ha! More free love hippie than the authoritarian monsters that are Sandy & Bernie and the actual fascist economic thief that was Barry. The premise of Starship Troopers is political and science fiction. The science fiction part was invasion by giant bugs, check, high tech military hardware, including powered individual armor that made Mobile Infantry faster & far deadlier than main battle tanks, ( utterly ignored in the movie, who's Troopers were not as well equipped as Soviet troops in Afghanistan. Today's U.S. body armor and Ak-47s would be a better equipped force than the movie ) and space travel. As I said, the Director hated the source material and I doubt read the book. It's like someone gave him a plot outline and he made a parody. The story is a typical 19th century coming of age story as a high school jock grows into responsible adult in a war. The political part is in the finest tradition of "what if?" . Simply, the vets came back from an unpopular war, again. Were spit on by the SJW/Welfare State/Lefties, again. Were screwed by the VA, again. And said, enough. Had themselves a coup, and passed the law that you earn citizenship, the right to vote, and serve in office, by volunteering for military service. Everyone who doesn't has the same rights as before, but only by PROVING you place the welfare of your State and People over your own, personal comfort, by risking your own life, do you EARN the right to vote & serve. The results are far from perfect. And Heinlein never recommended this as a political movement. It's supposed to be a warning, and provoke thought. Surely a system based on self sacrifice and responsibility as a filter to Public Service has merit compared to the exact opposite as preached by the Elitist Left? Maybe. One aspect of the system in the Novel is certainly that anyone who wants to be a Congresscritter has to volunteer, first. And you have no choice of jobs. This has been true for most recruits no matter what lies the recruiter lays on the kids. In the novel, crippled service folk are the recruiters. Getting the "had the best time of my life" spin from a guy in a wheel chair with a metal arm and half burned away face, is designed to discourage the power hungry but cowardly types... Like a Bill Clinton. I highly suggest you read the book. It's a classic. Then, read Harry Harrison's Bill, The Galactic Hero. "The only book that's true about the military" A cutting satire on recruiting and service. Funny, dark, stark, and ironic. And if you crave battle fiction, Armor, by John Steakley. What happens when your entire unit is listed as wiped out, but you lived? The system sends you back to battle. Again. And again. And again.... The computers list you as dead. So you must be a replacement! Not a parody of Starship Troopers, which Bill certainly is. More the Catch 22 of Interstellar War. |

I see. Read it again! The exact opposite of Sandy the taco actress recruited by rich white evil leftist men to be a know nothing puppet to destroy America as we know it. I actually enjoyed the movie, bad as it was, and it was terrible. My favorite parts are where the Director was the most heavy handed, the tv propaganda. "Do you want to know more?" Aiming hard core mockery at the political aspects actually made them more interesting. Not desirable. Except if given a choice between the Starship Troopers system and the Green Leap Forward? Sign me up, Sarge! None of the sequels, except the animated, is worth a second of your time. And if you skip the first movie, you won't get kicked by me, it's bad. |

If you think mandatory military experience for public office will result in a military dictatorship, in this country, I can’t help you. Lots of elected officials are prior military, including, historically, most presidents. There are many horrible things on the horizon for this country. A military dictatorship isn’t one of them. |

SORRY HOOT, SOUNDS LIKE I GAVE OFFENCE I too have both read and seen start ship troopers, and it jogged a concern on a "hunta" being formed. My concerns are that by excluding segments of the populace, we have taxation with out representation, and the potential for an autocracy. [ despotism ] We have already had a group of bureaucrats and law enforcement officers attempt to over turn an election. ( a Coup in my book ) While I believe most LEOs and public officials are honest, competent, hardworking, not all are. On paper cortez, should be well qualified, degree in economics, had a real job, had Immigrant parent(s) who would value the things that make this country great. Instead the folks in NY whom elected her have some one that resembles Gilda Radner's "Rosanna D'anna-D'anna" as there congressional representative. But think on this, Military service req'd Trump would not have been able to run, he seems to have done a good job so far. I agree that Military Service provides the candidate with a unique perspective, and "retired" military persons have made valuable contributions in many areas. As INTENSELY as I dislike cortez, sanders, warren, etc, and their unrealistic/failed/treasonous ideas, attempting to exclude these things lowers us to their level. |

My thought is that a lot of the people in office would not have made it to an Honorable Discharge. There probably wouldn't be a need for our current President if the requirement had been in place many years ago. I learned more about the constitution in the military than I ever got in school. A coup or dictatorship because of prior military service or the generals taking over? Highly unlikely. I was authorized to terminate a person while serving. I could clearly see the person made a mistake and was not a threat. I took heat for not using deadly force. It would have been a legal kill. I put no-one in harms way by my choice. I had 15 guys with full auto weapons and a clear shot backing me up. Any one of them could have dumped a mag. or spent a belt legally. They accepted my call. It would not have been the right action. There are people in the military that know right from wrong and will act upon it. I slipped the safety back past fire to safe and that guy went home to his wife and kids. I had to explain my actions and went to sleep that night knowing I had done the right thing. It would never have made the news. My court marshal would have exonerated me. And I would have had trouble living with that one. There are people in the service that make the hard choices every day, because they do what is right. Have you met any of the people that are in there now. They impress me. |

My thought is that a lot of the people in office would not have made it to an Honorable Discharge. I do not have the military experience to truly debate this, ( and generally agree with you OurDee ) I do have a question, The oath of service says that the people in uniform shall defend the constitution / home land against all threats foreign or domestic ? so a crook like sanders gets elected in a fixed election, when discovered law enforcement does nothing or little, what does the military do ? Hillary's camp tampered with the dem primary so election tampering has happened. what happens? } |

They do what civilian leadership tells them to do, of course. That’s written in the constitution that we took an oath to defend. |

Society of Cincinnati. https://societyofthecincinnati.org A deeply patriotic organization with active service members and deep connections. No coups. Civilian control of the military. If they have to act to preserve the Constitution, they will. But you may never know if they ever did. Of course, they're just a historical education group. Like some others. |

I do have a question, The oath of service says that the people in uniform shall defend the constitution / home land against all threats foreign or domestic ? I took that oath and still do not take it lightly. I am sure plenty of my brothers contemplate how far they will take it if pushed. How far would you take it? No one that has any sense wants to be a lone wolf. I take heed to speak on the subject not as a braggart or fool in public. It is wise to reason your future actions out prior to being an emotional wreck. Every sane man should ask himself,"What if?" while his mind sits idle. The next thing to keep in mind is that there is a chain of command. I am no longer under the UCMJ. I am under civil authority. Some politicians live in fear of ex-military people going rouge. My first question is what have you done to be paranoid? The second is really? They need to be paranoid of their own secret agencies. Not us veterans. As one of those YouTubers says often, "Long live the Republic". |

In that "what if" situation Ourdee refers to, I also took an oath, but as a civilian employee. The role is different, but as I recall, the oath is the same. Recognizing that I have less formal training in the "what if" scenario, I would naturally defer any leadership role to those with more experience than I, but rest assured I know which side of the line I would be standing on. I also hope and pray it will forever be just a mental exercise for an idle mind. I believe the best way to ensure that is to make sure those on the other side of the line understand that our idle time is spent,... thinking. |

Told me the same thing. It is in a fireproof safe. The thing I remember were them collecting blood and palm prints, and hand prints and other prints. That night my mind raced as to why a finger print wasn't enough. I saw later why. Lots of stuff never shows up on the posters in the recruiter's office. I scored a 95 on almost every test and had choice of careers. Instead I changed my whole life for a picture of a guy with an M-16, and a dog kneeled down in front of an F-16. I went to the recruiter's office with my son when he was 18. He was a good chooser. Part of the key is getting children into books at a very early age. |
