We have a confirmed reservation for a 12 participant Behind The Scenes tour on Wednesday, May 29th at 1:00 p.m.!
Total cost is $408.00 (as expected), but the best thing is that it "must be paid in full one week prior to the arrival date". So we don't need to tie up our $$$ early, but I will be pretty motivated - likely about 2 weeks before HOMEcoming to get the $$$ from each person who has committed to participate in this special event.
Sorry. Things have been a bit busy, and I've got a termite inspection in 45 minutes, and I've got a business trip to Knoxville all next week.
The funds need to come from 1 central source. Since I have the reservation info, that pretty much puts me on the spot to be the responsible party.
The only issue I have with people sending in their $$$ 'early' is that the cost isn't exactly fixed at this point. We know what the individual costs would be if it ends up being just the 10 people that are signed up now. If we fill the last 2 spots, then the per person cost will go down - and some funds would have to be refunded. Or if unavoidable consequences happen and someone won't be able to make it, then the cost per person would go up, requiring my - ahem - collections agent to politely request the additional cost from the early pre-payers at the museum.
So...If you like the terms, sign on the dotted line, some assembly required, your mileage may vary...
The cost of commitment sometimes means you bleed green. I'm still in with those terms. If you want a little "padding" just say so. If you end up flush, depending on how much, you can always offer to buy the high priced beverages at the museum, or the round of soda at Gus's.
Dammit Brankin! Just read that you're in town- for how long? I've been off today and yesterday, starting a 7 day run tomorrow. If you're in Knoxvegas now, it's a great time, especially if you're a music lover, Big Ears is coming up this weekend, and the great music is already starting up.
If at all possible, head to Market Square and grab a burger at Stock and Barrel, or... there are scads of great places to eat downtown. The WDVX studio will be having free noontime shows at the corner of Summit Hill and Gay streets, at the Knoxville Visitor's Center.
I'll be working out in West Knoxville at Fleming's every evening until 3/28. In the meantime...
Our group of 10 is heading back to NC Friday - unless enough people agree to leaving after work on Thursday. We're at the Crown Plaza, so Market Square is the view outside my window. Some of my colleagues had dinner at Stock and Barrel on Monday after we arrived - while I was out collecting sundries for the week. The funny thing about traveling for work is that they still expect one to work...
Brankin, $50.00 from me, via Paypal, just went to the Email address clandestinely hidden in your message. If we get cancellations and I need to pony up more, I'm good for that. If we stay on numbers as of now, keep the extra for your efforts in setting this up, (and thank you). If you get an influx and you feel guilty about how much $$$ is in your pocket, I'd be happy to let you buy me a beverage, (or a meal, a bike, a house,.. I'm not too proud).
Well, as we're nearly back to Eastern NC in this speeding minivan, I have some news.
We're up to 12 participants, with a possible 13th. No idea how to handle that with the museum, but I'll find out later this weekend.
What that means for everyone who wants to contribute 'early' is now the $34.00 amount is all that is needed. I haven't transferred any PayPal payments yet, so issuing refunds for any excess amount should be simple. But that will be a task for tomorrow as we don't have to work since we were supposed to travel back tomorrow. I will need to get some sleep once I get home, however...
Perhaps but if you refund back, doesn't that mean another transfer fee to one of us? I can't believe Paypal would be so magnanimous as to waive a fee. (I'm no fan of them in the first place.) If so keep it till homecoming. If your conscience still bugs you we can settle up there.
I called and made the payment today. It was an interesting setup - one that I have never experienced before. I entered my CC number and 'the code on the back' through the keypad on the phone. I am keeping track, and I do know who has overpaid. We'll figure out how to make things right for those who overpaid when we're face to face.
Unless I'm wrong - and please correct me if I am - here's the summary of who has paid:
No pressure on anyone who hasn't paid yet. I just wanted to make sure that we have our spot guaranteed.
Thoughtful planning.. its a good thing you did all the advance work, I'm more of an in the moment guy. My wife says its because I can't plan effectively, and cant remember s__t either.

HA! I'm typically more of a spur of the moment person. Although I've known about this BTS tour for a while and never thought I'd be able to take one. So it was the perfect opportunity with a little 'pre-planning'.
