That's what I'm hoping to do, and give 2 days up/back to do it. It shows about 8 hours for a straight shot, and I'd rather take the time to enjoy some notable stops and scenery. OTOH, a cheap flight would be the easy button.
Then again, if Gretchen doesn't roll up with Matthew, I could split gas $$$ with him. We shall see- already cleared the better part of a week off work to giterduuun!

(...dunno how accurate these lyrics are, but here goes...)
Stroker Ace was born to race he had a mean streak two feet wide A son of a gun with a taste for fun and more than his share of pride Take a dirt road curve with a devils nerve make a car dance across the mud Haulin shine was his regular line till the track got in his blood
Was a real hot shot and he bragged a lot, but man that fool could drive 'Cause he loved the feel of the steering wheel And the girls with bedroom eyes And in a race of time or a bar room fight, Ol Stroker stole the show A back stretch blazer, a real hell raiser and a racetrack Romeo
Mama lock your daughters up that vile bunch is back in town
And them little girls get frisky when they hear that race car sound They're bringing out the yellow flag, somebodys brakes have failed There's an alsike on the inside and a wreck along the rail You'd better stand on it Stroker 'cause a bandits on your tail
It's a dynamite joy for a country boy when he hears them engines moan But you've gotta hang tough when it gets real rough When you're out there on your own 'cause they'll push you down They'll knock you down, they'll shove you up against the wall And you always know when the engine blows that a man can't win em all
You can push that car just a little too far any Sunday afternoon And if you'd break your neck in some damn fool wreck They'd forget about you soon But Ol Stroker Ace was born to race and it's worth all the trying Just the dirt, champagne in the victory lane and to hear that concrete whine
Stroker get your dander up this ain't no time to laugh You've got to make the lap up if you're gonna take that checkered flag Number 10 is closin in to even up the score Its time to wave bye bye and put the pedal on the floor You'd better stand on it Stroker 'cause your blowin off their doors
Blow their doors off Stroker Stand on it, son Ah, you good lookin devil you
Im Starting to get giddy with excitement! If only this stinking cold weather would disappear. 00 degrees tonight and next week again as well. At least we haven't had much snow. Its gonna be a great time at the Ruffner Ranch. Carol
This is a link to the AFT's Video's page. I can't seem to figure out how to put up just the Springfield Mile, but it's down at the bottom and you'll get a taste of the racing. Racing like this is the norm for Springfield.
I just got back from a visitation. The mother of the Smoked to the Bone owner passed away. The funeral is just 2 miles away. I stopped by, along with a mutual friend and track team member from high school. So I got to talk to Phil Richards after all these years. He's looking forward to having us as his guest. A sad day for his family but he was in good spirits. My friend and I agreed to take a road trip over and see him and judge some Q! Film at 11!
Howdy, well it seems section NN row two, seats 5 and 6 are mine. We'll likely be driving from New Orleans on the 23rd. Crusty, thanks for the heads up on this event, looking forward to a good time, 1 mile at a time.
So we've got Harley riders, Buell riders, EBR riders, Kawasaki riders, BMW riders and now Indian riders coming; and that's just in our little group. This is getting better all the time!
And don't forget the Toyota driver!! I think I'll ride the Harley to BBQ and then ride the Buell to Springfield. I like to keep the oil stirred up in both!
I strongly suspect there will be more four wheeled vehicles than just one Toyota. I'm pretty sure there will be a pickup, a Nissan and hopefully a Jeep to add to the mix.
well, I got a ticket just in case... blue_scout/Charles... I will be right next to you in seat 7.. gonna be a long drive up from the panhandle...but this is what memories and stories are made of...
We have a 3 acre yard so if anyone wants to trailer their bike to here and ride it from here to Springfield we have the room for the vehicles. We are about an hour and a half (maybe less) from the races.
I'd love to come over for the races, too, but medical issues the past year and a half for Mommio have made finances very tight. If I made it, I'll likely be riding my other orphan, my Victory.
