The more I play with it.... the bigger it gets.. just added Hutchinson’s wheels and Currie 4” springs. Gained a total of 3 3/4” in height... I’m gonna need a step stool to get in the damn thing

When I built the house... I made sure it had a larger garage door. 18x8 Wish I would have put in another stall! |

Got almost all my lift parts today, everything except for the front lower control arms. They shipped straight from the mfg., and should be in Friday. OK, it won't look like Wolf's when it's done, but I'm still pretty stoked! |

What lift kit did you get? |

Built around a 2.5" Teraflex basic lift. (Springs, bump stops, sway bar links, rear track bar bracket, brake line relocation brackets) 4 Rancho 5000x shocks. Steer Smarts Yeti XD adjustable track bar. Core4x4 Tier 2 adjustable front lower control arms. Exhaust spacers to get the drive shaft to clear the exhaust. Supposedly the new rear track bar bracket does a good job of locating the rear end and there's no need for adjustable pieces in the rear. For now I'm going to run the stock wheels and tires, with 1.5" hub centric wheel spacers. Most people claim to get about a 3" lift from the Teraflex kit. This is a very recommended combo on WranglerForum.com for the JKs. |

Can you do a 1" body lift? I don't know what they offer for JK's It really helps clean the mud off the frame and such... when mud happens |

I know it can be done. Have no plans for that... Yet. Its a pretty cheap mod on the Jeep scale. 1" body lift from Daystar 1" motor mount lift from Brown Dog One Saturday and its done.... then onto the next mod.. |

I put a battery in my ol Heep, primed the Rochester 2bbl, fired it up and did several laps around my property the other day. Got his feet dirty. |

I hate exhausts. So I figured I would tackle the exhaust spacers before I have to go to work this afternoon. It's only 5 bolts, after I get the skid plate out of the way. First 4 bolts no big deal. One was a little fiddly, but not a bit deal. The fifth bolt, just an exhaust clamp, did this to my wrench!
Had to abort to make sure I had a way to work, and put things back together. Picked up a new wrench and went after it again, just to see if I could get the bolt to move. I got it free, so it should be an easy task later. The wrench BTW is a PROTO from back in the late 70's. Not really a low end wrench. At least I had time to put the wheel spacers on. Managed not to break anything doing that! |

Wow, I usually need a gas axe to get a wrench to do that... Proto no less. I have a few Proto/Challenger wrenches and sockets in my toolbox. I picked up a seized Proto 1/2" clicker torque wrench and after rebuilding it, it's within 2%. Z <edit> The story I heard was they were first sent out as a GP, General Purpose vehicle. GP was pronounced Jeep... originals were Willys (Message edited by zac4mac on November 08, 2018) |

That wrench failed because my pull direction wasn't perpendicular to the bolt. Reefing on it for all I was worth, when... It's moving!!! I'm still surprised the bolt didn't just break. Worked on the lift for about 9 hours today. Still have to come up with a permanent solution to keep the front brake lines out of harms way. I have an idea that should work for that. Also need to check the caster angle. Felt good on a quick test drive though. Then I get to figure out how to adjust the engine skid plate to clear the exhaust that was relocated by the spacer kit to clear the drive shaft at full droop. I think it all went pretty smoothly for my first Jeep lift. At least after the exhaust spacer fiasco. That would have been much easier if they just told you to cut 1.5 inched out of the pipe being adjusted. The directions say to just pry the exhaust backward to make room for the spacer. That leaves everything under some serious strain, that would have caused problems long term. Should have done what seemed obvious before fooling around trying to follow instructions! Yeah... Just Empty Every Pocket and Break Out Another Thousand and It doesn't cost that much more to do it yourself! |

It doesn't cost that much more to do it yourself! That has been true for me a few times... I dropped it off the other day to have the pinion angle fixed. I have adjustable control arms but wanted someone that KNOWS what they are doing make sure it was right. WORLD of difference!! No more drive line vibes. I asked the how much... and they said NO CHARGE! I felt like the new sheriff in High Plains Drifter... (when he first got the job) I was so tickled, I ordered the RCV Axles... and bought a synthetic rope for my winch..... and a new fairlead... My name is Mark, and a Jeep owns me.... |

I've not needed a winch. I have just used chains and straps to pull people through. |

I too have just tugged people out with straps and chains in the wild. However, in the past year I had the joy of using a roll back with a proper winch. There is nothing like the smooth power and control available when using a winch. It is a fine tool to have in the box. Especially if you are one of those guys that likes trying to get the beast stuck. I have never had to use a winch, strap, or chain to get my jeep out of anything. But if you like trying to get stuck. |

I had a Warn for a long time but it wouldn't free spool the cable out. I finally got tired of dealing with it and bought the Smitty. It works great and I like the cordless remote. It does have a cord back up but I haven't had to use it yet. I would go for a synthetic rope winch. They don't kink or bend. They float!... and it saves about 30 - 40 lbs and I have had to use my winch a bunch.... you guys aren't trying hard enough! I didn't have a winch.... and then this happened...

I've got synthetic line on my winch. It's nice. Handles like rope. No sharp ends of wire to stick you. And it does't stretch under load, so it's safer. I'm told that dirt kills it over time though. Not a bad thing to wash the line after muddy use. Abrasion on rocks is bad too. I've only used mine to get unstuck a couple of times when I've been high centered. The down side of the 4 door. Pretty easy pull, but without the winch, it becomes a matter of ingenuity and muscle. I've used it more to move downed trees. I've got straps to wrap around those. You certainly don't want to drag something like that with your synthetic winch line wrapped around the tree. |

The other nice thing about synthetic line - when it breaks, it drops. No whip, no damage, no injury, just falls flat. Then, you tie a good knot in it, finish your pull, have a good rest of your weekend Jeep'n...and order a new line when you get home after not-interrupting all your fun. |

Done, done, and done!
Came out to 3 1/4" in the front and 1 1/4" in the rear. About 2" overall and really leveled the low front. Had to cut the engine skid plate for clearance on the new exhaust position, but easy enough. That reminds me of another saying. Bolt on parts don't! It looks like it took me a whole season to get this project done! |
