I agree wholeheartedly. However, the bleeding-heart liberals who think its our duty to shelter and save all refugees from other countries (nevermind the fact we have enough of our OWN problems and don't need to try and fix everyone else's) would start a complete shitstorm over it.
I can't get the meme out of my head that said "imagine if all these people mobilized to fix their own countries, instead of demanding we give them asylum".
I had a buddy lathe one for me for airline travel. No metal, select cedar. Perhaps not the strongest wood, and I'll take suggestions for its replacement.
It's the same length as my "sword & board" rattan weapon used for sword & shield tournaments. Years of muscle memory. I'm slowly beating it to death on a padded pell, so will need replacement. The length is also the proper hand on ball cane length for me.
Not a coincidence, since it's sized for "Grasscutter wraps" the sword move where you swing low, like hitting a golf ball at your side, ( one handed ) that curves up and wraps around the enemy's shield, hitting them on the back..... From in front. From butt to head, as you choose. A Kendo master friend told me that it was outlawed in Kendo because of the fatality rate. Literally legally murder in Japan with shinai. It's a legal move in SCA fighting, because our helmet rules are much heavier & cover the back of the head.
I especially love to land a shot across both butt cheeks. Stands people straight upright, and the eyes get real big.
I'll take suggestions for its replacement. Mockernut Hickory (Carya tomentosa) comes in at twice the hardness of Aromatic Cedar and is used for tool handles. At only about 5% softer is the Shellbark Hickory (Carya laciniosa). Then there is the ever popular baseball bat wood; White Ash (Fraxinus americana). The White Ash is mid way between your Cedar and the Hickory in hardness. Here is a PDF that may be helpful: https://www.alansfactoryoutlet.com/hubfs/75-types- of-wood-ranked-by-janka-hardness-3_print-poster-1. pdf?t=1540316501565
Straight hardness isn't the only consideration for a good thumping cane. You don't want it to split and break on impact. A little flexibility is good, the whippiness helps in delivering maximum impact.
A pell is typically a 4-6" post, ( 4x4, or pole ) 6-7 feet tall, often covered in carpet remnants to preserve the weapon. ( sword/club/staff ) You practice blows over and over and over to build muscle memory. Swinging at the air isn't the same.
Here is the basic wrap. Believe me, it's better without being in English
Here, it's all high shots, but you can see how different angles work. A scorpion wrap is overhead, with the blow striking the back from above. The grasscutter is from low angle, slicing up.
I want a wood that can survive repeated abuse. That is why I picked the hickory or ash. I keep a 36" riot baton near. It is a great defensive tool. I haven't had any training with those fancy knot knockers. Drunks don't care if you are going to shoot them. I have had them back off when confronted with a club. No one besides Brankin seams to want a spanking.
The mechanics are the elbow rotation, and tightening the grip at the right time to pull the blade towards you with maximum speed.
Yes, if you miss, you're trying to hit yourself. To prevent that you angle the return over your head..... Or just hit them.
As I said, it can be better in a foreign language.
There are many other shots, flat snaps, moulinets, etc. The wrap ( around ) shot is just one in a menu selection you pick for the moment.
Multi move combos that flow with speed are a learned, skill. Selecting the shots on the fly ( as opposed to learned katas ) is the difference between a rote fighter, and a winning one. Seeing the openings and taking advantage in the moment.
Keep in mind any attack you make leaves a hole in your defense. ( true in all martial arts ) An aggressive combo can force, or fool, a gap in the opponent's defense.
Oh, they'll be here [the migrant invasion] in time for the midterm elections.
I wish I'd taken that bet. Looks like December now. Depending on their success there are even more caravans forming up. It's past time to stop this nonsense
They can only blame others for things they themselves are guilty of.
They're not bright enough to make stuff up.
(and as an extension...they assume everyone ELSE is just as dumb/gullible as they are).
*disclaimer: this blanket statement may not apply to all Democrats as individuals. I'm sure there are some individuals out there who are un-dumb and still vote Democrat. My statements are purely a blanket statement about the group as a WHOLE, and about their "leadership" personae. THOSE individuals...yeah, they're plenty dumb.
