Leftists still really believe they knows more about farming, running a machine shop, building airplanes, and medicine than people who do it for a living. This is how roughly half of Congress thinks. Since they are mostly lawyers, they are indeed well trained in how to argue and manipulate a bureaucracy. Some very few actually made a living doing something useful. ( lawyers are useful! So are Waiters. ) Some actually made a profit & made a payroll! None is expert in every field. ( even I am only expert or competent in a limited range of industries. Aircraft, machine tools, home made fusion, sure! But I can't tell peas from weeds. Bad choice to run a Daycare. Hopeless as a sou chef. I'd never make a profit as a stripper!  ) One of my favorite examples of how incompetent bureaucrats are outside their comfort zone of corruption and faking it, is the Soviet Airliner that had the wing mounted at the wrong angle, so that in level flight, the fuselage was nose high, food carts had to be pushed up hill, and controlled so they didn't roll into the tail, and it plowed through the air, getting horrible mileage. I can see that mistake being made in the prototype, but any idiot would fix it for the second and subsequent planes. Nope. That would have taken time and cost the manager his bonus, and these people can never admit they were wrong. See the multiple examples at the VA under Obama. | ||

How crooked is Leon County? Seems that sending out early voting envelopes with postage paid to registered Democrats, but postage required to registered Republicans would clearly qualify as voter suppression. | ||

The new car market is in trouble. Remember Scion? Intended to be the entry level cars for the youth market, it was cheap, cute cars with all accessories dealer installed. A paradigm shift in car making, basically just one model leaves the factory, & power & handling mods available along with branding & chrome bits, all dealer installed. ( chrome stick on stuff and suspension bits like shock tower braces ) But while Toyota lost vision on improving the models, going cheaper, the customer base turns out to not care about performance, only connectivity. Turbos, no. Built in wifi, yes. Then the twin debacle with Subaru, where a focused track day package car got under sold, cancelled, revived, and not.... Improved. ( no power increases to mention in the company's only performance seller ) The entire brand.... Gone. In contrast, Jeep has the illusion of rugged outdoors that still sells. Chevy has serious track performance. ( and the winning Cadillac performance suspension ) Dodge has nostalgia muscle, that delivers more raw power than anything this side of Bugatti and Koenigsegg. Ford still sells more F-150s than most foreign manufacturer's entire lines. Still, I have to admit the small cars from Ford & Dodge have reliability problems ( Dodge can at least blame Fiat ) and GM still has a SUV glut of hard to tell apart small pseudo trucks apparently sold by the inch. And the new generation, after eight years of indoctrination that they will never get ahead, the New Normal, socialist street cred to have no worldly possessions, ( other than a new PlayStation and iPhones that cost more than some of my cars ) & Uber..... Just aren't buying cars. No need. As long as they live at home and can drive Mom's. | ||

Spirituality...... Christians and Pagans defend Jews. Nietzsche is dead, former Iron curtain nations embrace the Faith their former Masters could not erase. Progressives attack Jews, God is dead, free nations must deny their Faith and worship the Holy State, or be branded heretics. Only authoritarian political religions are tolerated, and made official. A century of hatred and envy of The Church Of Rome fades, as the Last Pope preaches Marxist critical theory, condemns scientific inquiry as blasphemy, and threatens to unleash the Inquisition on those who criticize his defense of pedophilia. And that's the optimistic version. | ||

True. Not tolerant of me to dislike Liberation theology so much, I admit. I do tend to dislike Popes as a group, too. Quite unfair. The one that had the cojones to stand up in Poland and undermine the Iron Curtain deserved respect. The Inquisitor who retired had his good points. Bureaucracy designed, apparently, to give politicians jobs to give relatives, and give massive paychecks to Union guys. It's like a Department of a public work, for example, running the water treatment plants, or the Port, or keeping just the right amount of steam leaks to keep the city photogenic, without actually collapsing the basements, usually. But with an extra layer of relatives in high paying jobs with kickback privileges. Cynical? You betcha. | ||

There is a novel by Dean Ing, Systemic Shock, a WW3 story, where after a nuclear, chemical, and biological attack on the U.S. the federal government collapses, and the center of organization becomes the Utah based LDS Church. Salt Lake City becomes the new Capitol. It's not a utopian world. The Bad Guys, um, let me rephrase, The Attackers in The War, ( bad guys abound in this novel ) are a China that allowed Islam to dominate and take over the Red Chinese government. Using the existing Chinese indoctrination machine, in a generation a hybrid Islamist Theocracy rules, then goes to conquer the world. They fail, but in the process, the spasm of nuclear destruction and then the plagues unleashed, trash civilization, hard. Just fiction. But written by an expert survival author, engineer, inventor. ( the Magnum auto designer, among other race cars, from Indy to desert racer ) It appears the Bad guys from the novel, won't happen. But this isn't cause for joy unalloyed. I'd be reluctant to cheer the Nazis killing Soviets in concentration camps,or the reverse, both happened, and it was still evil committed on humans, even when you have reason to fear them. | ||

It is kinda a natural place to go, though. With the above novel as context, my initial reaction to the "vocational training" camps was "well, that bad future won't happen now", but it's mostly just folk being treated very badly. It's the fanatics of one religion trying to erase another from the minds of it's people. Oh, and in the tradition of Socialist Double Speak, "vocation" in this case means, still breathing. Not that you can sometimes tell from my gentle treatment of the Teachings of the ( fill in the blank ) as a force for evil in the world, but I'm all for the freedom to believe silly stuff, as well as the freedom to tell people it's silly. When mocking ANY faith is forbidden, there is no religious freedom. And don't try to say you can be polite when the folk you complain about burn babies in the temple.
