The thing about the 2012 timeframe is, Kavanaugh has gone through multiple high-level, high-security, high-influence positions since then.
This never came up?
Convenient...
I honestly suspect the accuser's handlers told her "don't worry, you'll accuse him and that'll be enough, you won't ever have to testify or anything". So, they never built or learned a backstory.
I've had a traumatic event. I've lived with PTSD. Even with no recollection of the immediate event (motorcycle accident that should, by all accounts, have killed me)...I can tell you EXACTLY where it happened, EXACTLY when it happened, and EXACTLY what the weather was like that morning (which is the last thing I remember, my morning commute).
Life-changing events have a habit of sticking, whether you "block" it or not. If you remember it well enough to accuse someone, you remember it ALL. If you only remember bits and pieces and nobody can corroborate...I call bull$hit.

Didn't need to... Yet. This was to keep him off the SCOTUS.

Exactly. She's not even sure what year it happened. I can pretty well work out what year any memorable event from HS happened. She can't nail down the year, or who's house the party was at. Now she doesn't want to put anything on the record under oath. BS!
There are techniques, somewhat like hypnosis, where a therapist can plant a false memory on a patient. No shiny pendulum, spinning coin, none of the cliche stuff. Just sitting & talking, and afterwards you've got a "memory" of a non existent past. This technique has been abused to plant false memories of sexual abuse in childhood. Leading to destroyed lives and families.
The same technique can be used to remove the false memory, leaving the subject pretty messed up with contradictory memories, thus is as unethical as torture or suppression therapy, where remembering an event is punished by drugs etc. ( see also A Clockwork Orange )
You wouldn't believe how effective this stuff is.
Done properly, long suppressed memories can be recovered, of variable use in treating PTSD. Done wrong, the therapist implants their own fantasy on the subject.
In many cases of post trauma amnesia, the information isn't in storage. Never processed from short to long term memory.
I've personally seen this treating heat stroke cases in martial artists, where they pass out coming out of the arena. Zero recall of the end of the fight, after the blood pressure drop amplified by dehydration, caused loss of consciousness at the end of the bout, as the fighter relaxes as he/she steps out of the "ring". Full throttle to fall down in seconds.
This is too, too common at the Woods Battle at Pensic, a "resurrection" melee combat where, after you lose a fight, you walk to " rez point", at the edge of the woods. You go from high effort, to slogging, hot, thirsty, and heavily clothed in restricting gear, perhaps hundreds of yards, in dusty, windless, woods, to the edge..... And boom! Out go the lights.Face plant. Out cold.
Doesn't matter if it's fencing or armored combat, protective gear is worn until out of the fighting area, and it doesn't breath, cloth or steel.
Every single case I've dealt with, and after 20+ years, I've lost count, 30?-50?, Has had short term memory loss. None remember falling down. If it's a tournament list, like a boxing ring size, they seldom remember the end of the fight. If it's after a few minutes walk out of a melee field, they don't remember reaching the edge.
Doctors I've discussed this with, many, tell me current theory requires a playback period between short term and long term memory of a variable few minutes to retain events. Short circuit that, and the short term is lost. That's theory, but seems solid based on observation.
Phlebotomists, who witness lots of fainting adults, say that isn't necessarily the case when needle phobes pass out after a blood draw & wake right back up. But does happen sometimes.
Final word?
Don't know if this accuser is bogus or not. Don't know if her memory is false, and she really believes it.
Do know the tactics here are deliberate, and by "true believers" who do not hesitate to lie.

“As you are aware, she has been receiving death threats, which have been reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and she and her family have been forced out of their home,” the email continued. “She wishes to testify, provided that we can agree on terms that are fair and which ensure her safety.”
Ohhh......so, just like all the Republican folks, then, who have been abused out of restaraunts and other public places, and threatened, and assaulted in public, all because of call-outs by the likes of Maxine Waters?

...and here's a question for the accuser: "If you were 15, why were you drunk at a party in the first place, to the point where you can't remember where it was, when it was, or who was there with you?"

I remember a girl from Jr. High that was quite the tease. I was her parents paper boy. One time I went to collect for the paper and she answered the door in panties and a bra and let me tell you, she was an early bloomer! I just asked for the money and once paid I left like there was nothing wrong with this situation. Later my brother was at a party at her house and she would hyper ventilate and have somebody squeeze her to where she passed out. Tell me a few horny teenagers didn't take a peek! Besides, it was the 70's and if you remember it you weren't there!
Because drinking to excess was the standard at her elite rich kid school.
I really don't like the "she was asking for it" defense Hillary and other scum use to discredit rape victims. Trailer trash don't deserve to get raped because they don't have rich parents, either. Yes, that is a Hillary thing, too.
But neither should a rich spoiled brat be accused of asking for it.
I'm not allowed to opine on my desired fate for such folk. Violates site morality standards to say. I feel rather strongly about it.
I also think those who make deliberate false accusations deserve legal action.
If I'm willing to suspend my opposition to capital punishment for rape cases, then false accusations approach attempted murder.
I'm keeping an open mind on this case of claimed teen fondling. Just as I keep an open mind on the fairly well corroborated claim of violent rape by Hillary's husband.
The difference is one has a vague memory to say it happened, some year? And the other is a case of known serial liars denying it.

Why .... pray tell .... is the F. B. I. Involved?
It’s a state matter.
There’s no crime.
I’m perplexed.
By the way .... if the F. B. I. DOES investigate and finds something .... they, having done 6 prior “detailed background investigations” are going to have egg on their face.

Another question, along the lines of Court's post - if, in fact, a crime was committed...why did whoever got hold of the story a) hold it for weeks, and b) release it to the PRESS and to CONGRESS, instead of...oh...I don't know...LAW ENFORCEMENT??
Hm.
Maybe because they knew there was NOTHING in the accusation that was actionable?

I can't wait for the left's response to it all. With SIX past background checks, I can bet I know how it's going to end up...
"Innocent, no truth to it, no evidence of it" - THE FIX IS IN, FBI IS CORRUPT, CAN'T TRUST THEM. Yeah...we begged for their investigation...well...maybe it was just to waste time and try and salvage the mid-terms....BUT THE FBI IS STILL CORRUPT BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T FIND WHAT WE WANTED THEM TO.

Isn't that my ( our ) attitude after the FBI decided not to prosecute Hillary, and in fact made that decision without interviewing her?
The difference is that 33,000 plus felonies were demonstrably committed, admitted to by the FBI, admitted by the criminal ( hillary ), and involved possible treason, absolutely corruption on a huge scale, and probably murder to conceal the crime. ( Having dirt on the Clintons is defined by the FBI as "natural causes" )
Trump should do what he said he would do if she proved she had any native blood, and donate a million dollars to the charity of her choice. It would immediately shut down the argument. And demonstrate that he keeps his word.

Was this about having any native blood, or being Cherokee, as she stated on her Harvard application? I'm not really sure what Trump said at the time.
Looking beyond any offer of a bet that Trump may have made, it's certainly clear that she has no claim to being Cherokee. Even the Cherokee Nation has put out a written statement to that effect. My wife is 1/32nd Indian (I forget what tribe), but can make no claims to any tribal affiliation. Yet she can document her family lineage to that tribe. There are legal definitions for these things, and Warren got caught in a lie. Her use of this DNA test as support of that lie is pretty pathetic, and typical of Democrats. Words have no solid meaning to them, and definitions are malleable depending on what suites them at the moment.
I will admit that Trump could have some more fun at Warren's expense. Any good entertainer (and Trump is a good one), understands timing. It's a bit too soon to make a donation like you suggest. Let the details soak into peoples consciousness for a bit, then hit them with the punch line. Perhaps, a donation to the Cherokee Nation would be in order. A donation that will never benefit Warren.
