Well, I just got back from a spur of the moment trip to Little Switzerland, NC. We went up Tuesday and came back this morning. We only got a room because a guy canceled a few minutes before my wife called, so that was cool. Unfortunately, we got there a few hours after Tim Hackbert passed through on his tour of eastern America road trip. So, when we got there about 4 PM on Tuesday it was raining, and it rained all day Wednesday, all night, and until about 2 PM on Thursday. Thank you, Hurricane Michael! THEN the wind came, and blew all Thursday afternoon, covering the roads with leaves and larger debris. Of course, the power went out at the hotel (plus 2 others nearby), which made for a really boring evening. Power was finally restored about 9:30 PM Thursday. This one-bike meet was off to a lousy start. So, finally, Friday morning, the skies are blue, the wind has mostly died down, but the temperature has plunged from the 70’s to 42. That’s OK; I brought the appropriate gear. I’m out and on the road by 8:30. The lower temperatures and lower humidity combined with continuing wind overnight cleared a lot of the trash off the roads which was good. I got about 140 miles of riding in on Friday, so the trip was redeemed. Here are a few pics from the day:

Fantastic. I'm looking forward to a full week in Suches, starting a little over two days from right now. |

Very cool, Hugh. I'm glad you got out and had a nice day yesterday. Hey, like any trip there are always experiences and stories. This one surely didn't disappoint in that area. I didn't know you had an SX. How do you like it as compared to your Uly? Great pics! (Message edited by buellerxt on October 13, 2018) |

It was an interesting day to ride. Every stream/creak that I went over or past was nearly coming out of the banks; that's really something to see up there in the mountains. Riding the twisties required more than normal caution as water was still flowing across the road in many locations and there were still a lot of small limbs and leaves in the road in some areas. I did get in one of the few almost completely unhindered rides I've had on NC-80 (the Devil's Whip) yesterday. I only had to pass one car and that was completely legal. Still, in one of the best curvy sections about 3/4 of the way up the mountain I encountered water across the road in 2 or 3 places. That'll really wake you up to come around a blind hard curve leaned WAY over and see water coming across the road just ahead. Fortunately I had no issues. Mike- I've had the SX almost exactly one year now; it's one of the last 2017 models. I like it a lot. The power is crazy and I'm sure I haven't come close to approaching the limits of its handling. Even with the suspension softened up to the max the manual recommends, it's a much stiffer ride than the Uly. I've mostly ridden it for the last year; when I take the Uly out for a ride now it positively feels like a Barcalounger compared to this thing. I'm really missing doing longer trips, so I think the Uly will get used more this fall. |

Fantastic. I'm looking forward to a full week in Suches, starting a little over two days from right now. I hope y'all have a great meet, Matthew. I really wanted to come but I had an unavoidable conflict come up, so this trip was a decent substitute. Good and bad, the leaves really haven't turned in the Little Switzerland area yet, but the leaf watching crowds were really rolling in by Friday afternoon. I imagine you guys will have to deal with some slow cages next weekend. |

I've been tempted by the SX since it came out but the style is a bit extreme for me at my 'seasoned' stage of life. Still tempted but . . . I'm glad to see you enjoying one. |

Thanks to you I know what NC-80 means! Glad you at least got one good day in! Did Mike have a generator for the hotel? Maybe he could run it on leftover moonshine! Will miss you guys in Suches. |
