Friend of mine wore his hair long when he was in his teens. Says his mother told him he could keep his hair as long as he liked because he wouldn't be able to KEEP his hair as long as he liked. He's bald today.... |

Like you guys I had very long hair since my teens. O MAN! I can relate to the creeper and trans fluid/gear oil comments I can also relate to Aesquire wearing a braid like a badass. It's all in the attitude For my 30th b-day I threw a block party, I took off my Metallica shirt, and had my hairdresser friend sit me down in the middle of the driveway and cut all my hair off. Never looked back An interesting sidenote (to me) was that it was only a few years after, I was standing in line at the bank and a long-haired guy my same age was in front of me, wearing a Metallica shirt. Subconsciously I got almost through the thought of 'what a loser' before Surprised myself I was such a hypocrite/bigot! and also realized WOW, what opportunities had I missed out on for all those years? From people just like ME!?! |

Meme thread not the "long hair" thread.

Yeah; things were starting to get pretty hairy. We'd better cut it short. (Message edited by Crusty on August 29, 2018) |

I forwarded that Flag meme to my friends and got back this reply from one: It’s considered free speech to disrespect the flag, the fans and white America in general while being paid outrageous amounts of money to do so. Maybe we’ll evolve someday to the point where we can permanently ban that racist symbol and replace it with something that truly represents the people: A hammer & sickle on a rainbow background with the slogan – “People Of Color Matter”. |

So...was that serious? Or sarcasm? Hard to tell without hearing inflection... What the asshats at the NFL seem to forget (and Gargle, and Farcebook) is that freedom of speech also applies to those who would speak out to support our great nation; not just dissenters. |

He was being sarcastic. But it does appear that there are many who would rejoice if his description were to come true. Just ask the New York Times or the Washington Post. |

Hence my question about the sarcasm - not out of the realm of possiblity these days. Problem is with the end phrase "people of color matter". It should read, simply... People Matter. We don't need to worry about the rest. It just doesn't make a difference. "Are you a person? You get respect." Period. I know. Preaching to the choir here on Badweb, but it still makes me feel better to come out and say it |

As a kid, my father drove like a professional on road trips, because he was one. That scene from National Lampoon Family Vacation, where they stop at the Grand Canyon for ten seconds? My childhood. I'm convinced my Dad's Roman spiritual ancestor said "a real man can hold his urine, son" over 2000 years ago & the road trip tradition continues. No stops, no mercy, no giant ball of string or Reptile House for us! To be fair I was allowed to climb a concrete dinosaur on rt.66. You'd get arrested for that today. Mom was freaked when I reached the Brontosaurus head, Dad just yelled to hurry down so we could resume the trip. So, I'll stop at any excuse if the passengers want to. World's biggest ball of rubber bands, concrete dinosaur, and the ever popular plaque describing the first school in the area, burned down by hostile natives well over a century ago, at a "lookout" with nothing but forest & high tension lines in sight. ( area considered cursed/haunted/sacred since massacre ) Oddly, there are lots of those in western N.Y. & PA. |

My Dad was a Navy Corpsman attached to the Marines in Korea. He also had this rep.
