Here in the People's Republic, In-n-Out committed the sin of donating $25,000 to the Republican Party. Dem's found out and called for a boycott. Sunny and I ATTEMPTED to get to In-n-Out tonight but the parking lot was slammed and the smog-test station lot next door was slammed and the drive through had near 20 cars backing out into the street. They had 3 order-takers that we could see walking through the drive-through line. We ended up going elsewhere - short schedule and couldn't wait but I'll be getting lunch there tomorrow. Boycott: fail! |

https://pilotonline.com/business/consumer/article_ 39be46dc-6ae4-543e-be69-fde631ba765b.html $80,000 went to Democrat Party group this election cycle. So, yeah, the Burger joint, like any smart, big company, bribes both sides. Big oil, big pharma, big burger..... Unlike my union. For fifty odd years, from WW2 till Clinton, it made sense to bribe the guys in power, the Dems, and ignore the other guys. But since Slick Willie, the majority in Congress changes back & forth. So all smart folk spread the wealth around, so no matter who wins, they have a sympathetic ear, paid in advance, the D.C. Way. The danger in one sided support, is "best" described as sexual/power metaphor. The guys you habitually support, start taking you for granted. You're a sure thing. No need to seduce you with trinkets and attention. You're the old prostitute the pimps send out with a hand print on your face, and orders to bring in more money. ( the metaphors get even more offensive when I get on a roll.... Truth hurts ) OTOH, the side you habitually ignore, has no reason to reach out, you belong to the other guy. Seduction is futile, and kinda immoral. The lobbyist knows the "we gave millions to your opponent for your whole career, but we'd like you to vote for us anyway" approach is a non starter. So, $80,000 to Dems, $30,000 to Reps, and Dems want to ruin a company for Disloyalty? Yep. Corporate purity! Racial Purity! ( Klan, Planned Parenthood eugenics, ) Ideological Purity! All those Impure must be Purged. That's not a modern viewpoint at all, is it? Seems...... Medieval. No one expects the Inquisition! |

Back in the day Unions gave to both sides just as you described. In the last few decades though they've just been the monetary arm of the democrats and those in that party refer to them as "useful idiots". I was a union shop steward for many years and was screwed over by my own union. In many cases I still consider them a necessary evil but their more interested in feathering their own bed than helping their members. |

I was asked to be a shop steward, and I declined, on the grounds that management would get so angry at me it would be counter productive. I would like to someday go to the spa equipped luxury resort with golf course the Union bought for meetings with my dues money, but all in all, politics aside, they have been very helpful to me. The argument that a Union shop forces an adversarial relationship with management, has some merit. However, I don't think that it takes a Union to make for bad management. I've seen greedy, evil bosses in non union shops, and kindly, smart management in union shops. It is true, that there are advantages for a company to be unionized, in that pay is negotiated in a block, and therefor you can cut out all the extra work of giving people merit raises, they no longer happen, there's no jealousy over merit pay systems, and you know costs for the upcoming time period. The downside is usually higher labor costs, overall, but that's not really a given, if management is smart. Or Ruthless, like at Firestone tire where the workers went on strike for unsafe working conditions, ( justified ) and the company just fired them all replaced them. Don't ask me how you get away with that. I assume restructuring & large political bribes. edit. to correct false statement on Firestone Strike. I was incorrect about the tactics used by the murderous scum in charge. Sorry. (Message edited by aesquire on September 01, 2018) |

But In N Out didn't really give to both sides. They gave $25,000 to the California Republican. They also gave about $80,000 to Californians for Jobs and a Strong Economy. That group is described as business-friendly Democrats. The main stream Democrats in California are hard left and seems to hate capitalism . Two different groups all together. Unless you give to the "progressive", hard left wing of the party, you're funding the enemy. |

Regardless of how much they gave to whom, this whole thing just demonstrates how the claimed party of tolerance, is anything but. It's the tyranny of tolerance. They simply can not tolerate any opposing view point. This isn't even about a particular issue. It's about not belonging to their cult. All infidels must be eliminated. They really are a sad bunch. Great to hear how this boycott has gone so poorly. |

That group is described as business-friendly Democrats That's close enough for me. I'm not the hugest fan of In N Out, but I appreciate their super straightforward scheme. That and I don't want to eat organic kale with green tea all the time. |

My problem is we ALL have a knee-jerk response. (myself included) In-n-Out contributes equally to both parties - as do many major corporations. To single them out because they contributed to the GOP is disingenious at best. |

It’s a shame we’ve degraded the term “at best”. We’ve devolved to having to describe the most bizarre and thoughtless behaviors. The folks ..... and this, I’m aware, is wishful thinking, ...... behind this should be ashamed and embarrassed. Common sense .... well, used to be. Reasoned logic and acting like grownups would serve these folks well. |
