I had a boomerang once.....got it as a souvenir from some hands on museum I visited when I was a kid. I must have thrown that thing 150+ times over the years and never had it come back......until that one day. Down across the yard it went, around shed, and right back to where I was standing. I just about shit my pants, as I had no idea how to attempt to catch it. So I ducked, and it shattered my parents sliding glass door I was standing in front of. That was a fun conversation to have when Mom and Dad got home. LOL
Had a Wham-O plastic boomerang, worked great. Never hunted with it, but slaughtered a lot of pop cans & some bottles.
Later I got the X type, fun but not the same, and have had a couple of wood ones, some ok, others not. The aerodynamics of a boomerang are interesting, asymmetric airfoil with twist. I carved a few, but they don't seem to have made it through multiple moves, while the most useless things stick with me.
I've also carved propellers, & used to have one of my 'rangs in the van for playing with while waiting for favorable conditions to fly. Also have gone through flocks of Frisbees, Aerobees, etc.
It is a unique hunting weapon that, according to Wikipedia, is found in ancient Egypt, Poland, 30,000 years old???!!!!! and in the Americas as well as Australia.
