$2k...nothing. Try paying the hospital bill out of pocket.

Glad you were relatively okay.

Drove me 200 feet down the road.my airbag didn't deploy Cop said some times hit at angle they don't work.Like I say I was only 1 Hert(Thank GOD)

Since people hate looking around objects, they roll up too far past the stop line (so that their eyes are almost parallel with the road you want to merge on), That is where they get the "I did't even see it coming at all".

The brain has a hard time processing the closing rate of speed directly at it, so it ignores it or something like that.

Maybe hearsay, maybe true. Glad you and the other person are ok, glad it wasn't a bike!

the american health care system (as i understand it / it is portrayed in media/news) boggles my mind being an Australian. $2k for an ambulance ride, fk that!

Here (and each state manages it a little different), if you have private health it is covered, no questions, probably no forms to fill out. And if you don't have PH, you can take out Ambulance Cover, but other states apply a levy to all car registrations to ensure all peoples can access emergency ambulance services when required.

To put it in perspective - a main freeway into the city of Adelaide comes down a lengthy decline with many truck arrester beds available to catch trucks with failed brakes. The local government have decided to cover the costs of all retrievals from the beds to incentivise drivers to actually utilise them in cases of emergency; as there had been a couple of horrible fatal accidents at the bottom of the hill due to trucks with failed brakes refusing to use the beds because they want to avoid costs to either their or their boss's business.

And to further put a level of perspective to it – in Feb 2016 my son was born 13 weeks premature, and subsequently spent 123 days in the neonatal ward. Every cost for his care, of which was 1 to 1 care (1 nurse overlooking him solely 24 hours a day) for the first 5-6 weeks; was covered under the public health system. We had the option to also have our private health assist in covering costs – which pretty much meant the hospital could charge a higher rate for the save service to fund further improvement to the neonatal unit. So in the end we didn’t have to pay a single cent. We asked out private health provider later on what costs they had covered to date for our son; they advised it was roughly AUD$90k and that would only equate to 1/3 the actual costs as the public system covers the rest.
