I was on a gator freighter(LPH-3) with 1200 Marines and a 400 man surgical crew in 1981 sitting off the coast of Iran. 4 full birds(O-6) on board We were there to do an American version of "Raid on Entebbe" that turned into disaster. Not only did we NOT rescue the hostages in Tehran, 3 helos ran into each other at the cost of several lives Carter was the dumbest POTUS ever. Effing moron Z | ||

Stupid? No. Delusional ideology? Certainly. Over his head? Apparently. Remember Jimmie was a nuke. Navy Submariner. High standards, the elite of the service. They need people smart and imaginative enough to live in a pressurized tube with a nuclear reactor and missiles and understand the danger, & weirdly mellow enough not to run screaming to open a hatch to escape when they think about that. George the Younger was also accused of stupidity. Wrong again. He flew F-102 delta wing interceptors. Hard to find a more unforgiving machine. They kill stupid people quickly. Wrong? I know Jimmy is a smart man, IQ wise. I am also aware of his nuke background, I was a nuke ET that got out of the program the day before my oral board for reactor operator. Where he effed up was knuckling under to the top brass that wanted "their" special forces involved. If he would have had some balls, he'd have said "we're sending in the Seals with Recon(USMC) for backup". The operation would have been a success, I have no doubt. My cousin was in on that raid. He told me about the helicopters not being able to handle the sand. He lost one of his buddy's in one. He was Air Force communications. He also called it a cluster! | ||

I was in the Mojave living in a barracks next door to the marines training for that mission. Carter was the worst Commander in Chief till this past century. President Reagan gave us our mobility gear that had been missing. Under Carter I lived daily knowing that in a deployment a few of us were dead hours after the plane kicked us out because there wasn't enough gear to keep us all alive in the environment. | ||
