Articles like the Federalist one above aggravate me. Not for the topic at hand - I'm well past being aggravated by today's political landscape - but by the fact they - and many others - insist on calling it the "Democratic party". WRONG. It is the DEMOCRAT party. Period. The "-ic" denotes the style of Government we enjoy here in the USA, not the name of one of the major parties. Democrat. Republican. | ||

You are right, but, as someone will point out, we are a Republic, with democratically elected representatives. In a subtle way, however, "Democratic Party" is factually correct. We learned, ( ok, some of us did ) that Democracy is fatally flawed, as a system, and this has been known since the Greeks invented it, and the term. Straight up democracy too easily becomes Mob Rule, and a charismatic speaker can sway the Mob to vote for very evil things. See the Peloponnesian War. Democracy is 2 lions and a lamb voting to eat the lamb. Thus the term "Democratic Party" SHOULD BE an insult, and a condemnation of the Mob rule mentality of it's leaders. The Domocratic Party people, OTOH, don't think that. They corrupt the language as a matter of deliberate dishonesty, and think the -ic on the end is better, because they use that word to imply they are the Pure And Correct Way. But, you are correct, the writers of the article probably just used the corrupted form because he's absorbed the propaganda, despite his views. ( or was lazy, it was a mistake, or he's being too clever using the "insult" form I mention... which no one would get ) | ||

I'm going with lazy. One of my majors was English. Your/you're. Their/there/they're. Its/it's. People have zero respect for, nor understanding of, our written language (or spoken, for that matter - "where you at?"). One of my pet peeves, and I suspect (this is pure speculation, of course) that some pride in our language, and attention thereto, may actually cause some more pride in our society in general. Alas, our "educational system" makes it a bad thing for some students to do better than others; like anything else, it's OK - nay, ENCOURAGED - to be just average, and only get by in life. No need to excel. The Machine shall provide, all you need to do is toe the line... ugh. | ||

One good thing coming out of the gay marriage issue. At least one state government is getting out of the marriage business entirely. It’s about time. See my previous rant(s) on government intrusion into what has historically been a church function. The requirement for a license was born out of an effort to keep blacks and whites from marrying. I can understand if not agree with banning all plastic forks and straws in the restaurant business as Seattle has done. The Hell with folk who go out for ice cream sundae. They can bring their own utensils. But jail time for waiters? My initial vigilante response is to go to the Capitol and check the cafeteria to see if legislators use plastic straws. I'd never condone beating or lynching them if they did. That's just wrong. Even if deserved. But a mail in campaign would be great. The U.S. Postal Service is in crisis with the lack of First Class letters. That's why they deliver all that advertising and parcels for UPS and Fedex. So I suggest you take your plastic garbage and mail it to specific California legislators. By name & office. Support the Post Office and peacefully disrupt the power mad loons in CA. Not stinky or wet garbage, please. Your mail person doesn't deserve it even if the Legislature does. | ||

"Not stinky or wet garbage, please. Your mail person doesn't deserve it even if the Legislature does." Plus it is a violation of federal laws to send toxic waste through the mail system. When I was much younger (much much younger), I got a visit from my local postmaster for sending a dog turd to a former boss. I now get rid of my unwanted metal, screws and bricks using the credit card application envelopes. My mail carrier is always amused. | ||

Like he did to Charlie last week, when he forgot the chips for the meeting. Ok that's a bit of an exaggeration. You don't feel that much sympathy. Thus it is when in a moment of clarity, one crooked cop tells another that when Hillary wins, she's going to remember who screwed her, and these cops KNOW that Hillary has left a trail of suicides and heart attacks behind her for nearly as long as Putin. With less empathy. So they better damn sure not actually try and make a case. Or else. And especially cute is the Team Loyalty, defending the company. You think she’s going to remember or care that it was more doj than fbi? Maybe you should have more empathy. These are professional law enforcement managers, presumably with experience in dealing with the Worst of the Worst, and Hillary terrifies them. | ||

( naturally there are conspiracy theories to try and hide that fact ) Can you think of a more positive trend than Egypt welcoming help from Israel in stopping an Islamic terrorist organization? But spouting off about this can only hurt all the good guys. And support the terrorists. Thus the Democrats in Congress who speak of this quiet cooperation must be supporting the terrorists. The terrorists who love to burn churches full of Christians alive. This would seem like a paranoid partisan attack on democrats, if the Former Obama Secretary of State wasn't telling the terrorist leaders in Jordan to not cooperate with the Trump administration, since he's going to be gone soon. ( presumably in a coup with the Former Secretary taking power, he's already said he wants the job. And of course, HIS regime would be pro-terrorists and anti Israel. ) It sure seems these Democrat Congressmen are violating laws on revealing classified information. It's a bad sign that this is expected to not be enforced. If there are Republican Congressmen involved they deserve to be arrested too. I'm not partisan on throwing Congressmen in prison. It's where too many belong. | ||

Every city with a large, oppressed black population, ( Democrat controlled, Democrat oppression ) would erupt in flames! It was a valid fear. Obama's ideology caused a small number of obviously mentally ill people to make threats, & a mentally ill person shot Reagan. So the assassination was remotely possible and the reaction obvious. 8 years later, a LOT more mentally ill people are "coming out" & threatening to assassinate the President. This can be taken as social approval for mental illness or just a media approval for assassination. Both? But this time, no one seems to be calling for a stop to these threats to prevent riots. No one predicts riots if Donald is snuffed by CNN celebrities or CIA officials. ( 2 groups that have urged murder of Trump & his staff ) I wonder if Hillary had won would there be predictions of pink hat riots if she was murdered? ( we'll get them anyway ) But that's speculative fiction. So anyone here planning to riot if Donald is killed? No one? You're too sensible to burn your own town and hurt your neighbor? Hmm. How deplorable.  | ||

If they were to assassinate Trump, then they would have to deal with a President Pence. I'm not sure the left would care for that. I think the right would adjust to that pretty well. I don't see people in my area burning down their neighbors homes, or their places of work. | ||
