OK, so I think I found something that may well be better than a Grom. Problem is that it is only available in Florida and would need to be shipped to the middle of New York. Not sure of the size of the crate, but probably about 4 feet x 2 feet x 3 feet high and between 350 and 450 pounds, the bike is supposed to be 224 dry and however much the crating weights. I'm sure it is top of stack or no stacking only, and not likely to have a standard pallet base, but probably has spots for forks to pick it. Uship was mentioned, but then it likely needs to be assembled, I'll want to pull it apart to check everything anyway. Besides it will make a better story for Youtube if it is still in the crate. Looking at a Motrac MX, as was suggested by the guy that runs the South Florida miniGP group, it looks promising on the track and is a pretty sharp looking design. https://motracmotorcycles.com/ the black and orange bike (only color scheme) So if any of you have contacts or what have you for shipping, I'd appreciate the help. |

If it's in a crate, thats WAY better than just a bike. Uship FTW. |

When I bought a 1991 Westwind in Maryland, HaulBikes brought it to Colorado. When I ordered my still crated 2012 1190RS Carbon, Old Dominion brought it. Had to borrow a forklift from a neighbor. GL Z |

I used Haulbikes to move my S1. Very professional, very careful. Reasonably priced. They do not move bikes in crates though (I don't think). They have double decker rigs, and no forklifts. They expect to be able to roll the bike off the truck. |

If it's in a crate already, couldn't you just ship it as "a thing in a crate" instead of a motorcycle? Wouldn't that actually be more easy? Surely, there is a reason they ship them in crates in the first place. |

Zac - when did you buy a Maryland Westwind? What color? I'd passively kept track of one for a while back around 05/06, but it seems to have vanished... |

Joe Found it on eBay late summer of 2015. Original owner was Nelson... forget his last name now.
<edit>She has a temporary gas tank from an S2 while I fix the "ate-up" inside surface. Gonna ride her to work in a few minutes. (Message edited by zac4mac on February 14, 2018) |

UPS Ground will ship anything in a crate. If you make arrangements they will even bring a fork lift. Not sure they are the best price though. I've used them for some rather large computer equipment that needed to be brought in through the front door. |

It's not that heavy. Liftgate service can cost slightly more, but the truck will have a pallet jack on it and no need for any 5000lb forklift nonsense for a 250lb crate. |

Problem is that we have no loading dock and trucks are high off the ground. Even if I slide it onto my little trailer, it will have more than a 2 foot span to clear. Some ramps might help though, I'll have to think about that. Ramps from truck to trailer would be about the same as ground to trailer and I would be sliding down hill... Still trying to make the price work, with what they've given me so far, I'd be better off with a Kawi z125 that I can drive 5 miles from my house to pick up. Taxes are all going to be the same, the DMV will grab them when I register if I haven't paid elsewhere. (Message edited by greg_e on February 14, 2018) |

Have you contacted one of the dealers in Florida? I would start there, and see if any of them have any ideas on how to ship. If they could assemble it, put it on a pallet, and then a truck, they'd make a sale. win/win |

Old Dominion is who Magnepan speakers uses to ship their big ones which should tell you something. Do you have a friendly local motorcycle dealer who could take delivery for a small fee? |

I might have one, but I might be able to have it delivered to work too (maybe). Price is an impediment right now, going to type up a sales pitch and see what I can do for a discount. Any of you who have looked through my website have seen the hours of work put into technical articles on the KAYO. That's a lot of time promoting something, I'd like a little consideration for that time. |

Sent my sales pitch, would be nice to get one free plus shipping. Even at distributor cost might be enough. I saw a price quote on these things for around $600 each when bought in quantities of 20 (small shipping container) and probably plus whatever a slow boat ride will cost, but I'd guess around $1000 to $1200 total to get them to Florida and ready to ship to dealers. |

Got offered a decent price, waiting on crate size and weight to check on the shipping. If I can get it shipped for a decent price, I'll go ahead and buy one. Anyone in Florida driving up to anywhere near NY? Anyone have a friend that is an independent driver that makes runs from there to here? |

Can anyone explain this to me? I get on uship, type in 5x2x3 feet crate, non-stacking, liftgate on my end, and 500 pounds. Get a price under $300. Change the weight to 400, and the price goes up $30. UPS freight was the cheapest each time. |
