The theme song was playing at the store this morning. ( snow storm today ) & they were playing it over the car-in the general direction of Mars deployment Tuesday.
Heavy Metal is on my short list of all time great movies. Anecdote from the Director, Heavy Metal was old school cell animation. They hired a bunch of retired Disney artists. He was checking on them and one of the artists that did the "Harry Canyon" segment was carefully, lovingly, flipping/drawing the sex scene. A guy who worked on Snow White & Fantasia making sure the breast bounced juuuuust right. ( flipping frame by frame to see the flow of the animation )

Putting the Tesla in space like that is quite the stroke of genius/insanity. Complete with the sticker that says "Don't Panick". I wonder what pocket that bit of advertising comes out of.

A few things:
Someone recently called my Firebolt a Rice Rocket. I corrected them that it was technically a Corn Rocket.
I have just about everything related to Heavy Metal the Movie. I can recite pretty much every line from the movie and have seen it hundreds of times. I also have the entire collection of Heavy Metals except half a dozen issues, I am looking for now to complete the collection. I even have the different parts of the movie bookmarked in each of the HM issues. Originally they had nothing in common, but they used the orb to tie them together. Den is one of my favorites "HMMM BIG!". It was also a pretty graphic cartoon. Definitely x rated in spots.
The Fifth Element is also in my top 3 movies list and I used the laser disk version to calibrate the projectors and audio in my SGI Reality Center LAB. Love that movie.

Bar fight scene. ( a shock for the day ) Advice on driving a spaceship while intoxicated. "You know your perspective is !@#$/^, ......"
The MUSIC!
Fifth Element! Short list. "Big badda boom!" The language was invented by the Director as a kid. Mila actually learned it and they had conversations in it. Too weird? I know people fluent in Klingon and Elvish.
I've got a box of Heavy Metal magazines somewhere in the library. Probably mixed with Omni magazine.

I have a very small comic collection, but I'd LOVE to have a complete Heavy Metal collection!
Me and my best buddy would walk a couple of miles to the old country store to get junk food and jerky, and I'd speed read every comic/Mad/Cracked I could find. They stocked HM too, and I had to slow down for those, to read and to absorb the artistry. Ranxerox was my favorite- somehow I feel that I've grown up to look like him! Lord knows we're living in a world now where I could BECOME more like him... wow.
Hadn't thought of Omni in a coon's age. If anyone makes it to Wheels Through Time over in Maggie Valley NC, don't miss his 2nd floor archive of old magazines, literature, promo brochures, and stuff. Easy to blow a whole day there fo sho.
I let a buddy borrow my copies of Heavy Metal AND Heavy Traffic... gotta text him to remind him to GET THEM BACK TO ME...
