OK, on Sundays I generally try to listen to The Splendid Table, which comes from my local NPR station- it's all about cooking, restaurants, food and drink and such. I haven't had a chance to catch it in some time... Yesterday's show was all about folks in the restaurant industry... WHAT a great show. The thing that brought tears to my eyes was the memoriam to Douglas Oliver, Sweatman's pitmaster. Wow, just wow. I've never been to Charleston, now I believe I'll have to ride out there one day, just to make this BBQ joint. Given that we're all about the 'cue here, youn's check it out. Plus the Splendid Table's new host has a GREAT tagline: "Eat well, Drink Well, and Tip Well." Oh yeah! https://www.splendidtable.org/story/remembering-do uglas-oliver-legendary-barbecue-pitmaster |

Cool article. If you come to Charleston for BBQ, go to Scott’s BBQ on King Street. Rodney has a similar background to Mr. Oliver. Of course, Scott is from Williamsburg County, and we don’t do mustard up here. Vinegar/pepper baby! |
