OK- this is just helter-tarded. https://www.npr.org/2018/01/30/581925549/teenagers -are-still-eating-tide-pods-but-dont-expect-a-prod uct-redesign And, on a similar note: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2012/12/ 20/167736797/youtube-inspired-food-dares-don-t-try -this-at-home-kids Now, I DO remember my years in junior-high when a few of my hooligan buddies would make contraband cinnamon toothpicks for sale... some of those batches would seriously hurt ya!! I grew up a stupid punk kid, but not THIS stupid. |

Time to move them back to bath salts! Has anyone mistakenly gotten some of the new style antifreeze in their mouth? The stuff they use to make it bitter is beyond description! Not sure if it is in the orange stuff, but the green stuff is nasty! |

They do that so animals won’t drink it. It’s quite sweet, normally, and if found on the ground provides a tasty treat for passersby. Followed by a dirt nap. |

Antifreeze is pretty poisonous, cats & dogs love the sweet stuff. Haven't tasted the new flavor. Hope it works to save the critters & kids. While on the subject of poisoning children..... funny safe kid video https://9gag.com/gag/aeMpppO One of the glycols was used as sweetener in some Chinese toothpaste a few years back. Cue political rant. Some dopes like to accuse others of not wanting regulation. Usually they are attacking self proclaimed libertarians accusing them of anarchy. "Right Wingers" tend to view the other's crime/punishment & protection against the excesses of the Justice System ratios as being distorted. Dopes call their argument opponents pro-criminal. Unfair, either way, I bet. Myself, the center seems to be enough regulation to prevent poisonous tooth paste, and not too much more. I also tend more distrustful of Police as an institution than A Rush type pundit would admit to. Current political affairs seem to point out that we should be. Anyway.... I've got my black/white sticking points, but the bulk of human relations is best seen as a curve. End political rant. Start philosophical one. Small kids eating cleaning materials is and long has been a parent problem. Evolution. Nature is cruel in tooth and claw and sodium hydroxide. Child proof your home if you want to keep them. A bit hard hearted, maybe, but practical. Edumacate them! As to adults eating Tide Pods because they want to be on Youtube? Full on Darwinist. Although that seems harsh, if you assume they are mentally ill. Ah, morals! End rant |

It's not just about child proofing your house. It's also about taking the responsibility of educating your crotch fruit on the realities of life. Like what is and is not acceptable to eat. And why. Why is always important. Examples help. Maybe I should start thanking You tube for providing so many. |

I stuck a dime in a light socket exactly one time. That was plenty. Further work with electrics (theatre production major) went on to prove that 110v tickles for a second or two, but doesn't have enough juice to stick you to the circuit and cause serious damage. Mom and dad knew this. I was given enough leeway to make my own decisions - within reason - because being "told" would only cause rebellion. I was, however, instructed in the proper use of a knife ("always cut AWAY from yourself"); the proper use of a firearm (by six years of age I was an NRA Pro Marksman); the proper use of a bow and arrow (by twelve, I was a CAA American Archer both right AND left handed). I knew how to cook on an open fire after lighting said fire with a single match. I knew how to change a tire roadside before I was fourteen. I could also build a shelter from woodland materials; transport myself through woods or river safely and quickly; identify "friendly" and "dangerous" plants; and forage for food if needed...by ten years of age. I DARE kids today to pull that off. I'm no Rambo; no SEAL; but my parents were good enough to expose me to a wealth of experiences where I could LEARN. No safe spaces; no private zones - there was no need. And they also taught me "don't eat dumb shit like laundry detergent". |

Common sense as an uncommon virtue, seems more apparent every day. Kids these days love to dazzle me with their apparent intellect and forethought...usually followed closely with an epic fail of Homer-like proportions.

Pretty damn sure my 4 year olds would know not to eat tide pods. Play with them? sure. Make a horrid slippery mess? Of course! That's the real reason they remain on the top shelf |

True story. A buddy runs a bicycle shop. He knows the Bic representative, ( Bic does sports stuff besides lighters ) & got prototype child resistant lighters to test. At the time we had a 8 year old girl, 12 year old boy, & did weekly events. I'd get the latest child resistant lighters and test them on the kids and adults, reporting back to Bic. Various safety switches and levers were tested until Bic developed the current layered friction wheels. Generally the 8 year old could make fire in under 15 seconds. The 12 year old in under 8. Adults took about the same # of seconds as their age, up to about 35, whereupon they'd quit in frustration. That's not a joke. That's why we have the existing systems. I helped in the testing. I usually was a bit quicker than the 12 year old. But I enjoy mechanical puzzles and am a tool maker. ( professional, not in the chimpanzee sense. That too, actually, but you get my point I hope ) Child proofing, like idiot proofing aircraft systems, takes a vivid imagination and testing with the target demographic. It's amazing what people come up with. |
