On a 1911 I like Pachmayer Signature rubber grips. Good hold, a hint of recoil reduction, and grip when wet.

They fall short of perfection. They wear, ( but they're cheap ) and are a waste to put on a pistol with a checkered front strap. The mainspring rubber cover is not a good idea if the mainspring cover is checkered, so you'd never put them on an Ed Brown or other "nice" 1911. But on a basic, smooth, model, they are very nice.

Of course, grip material & shape is very personal. Feel free to make your own choices.

The Pachmayers look tough, like the MEUSOC pistols of old.

While I agree, that right has been diminished here as well, with an ever increasing labyrinth of laws, licensing requirements, and registration schemes as well as the "progressive" elites convincing the masses for decades that their rights are not their rights and that anyone that disagrees is a radical racist baby killing fascist Nazi beholden to Putin.

Wow, how things have evolved! I still have a Mark I target. Used to be my squirrel gun back when I could still see the sights!

Thumb rest grips and a Clark trigger.

The new gun doesn't need a fancy trigger. The stock trigger breaks at around 4.5lbs which is quite a bit better than those of olde. The controls are pretty nice as well. The takedown is vastly simplified, though I never had a problem with the previous versions.

The new 22/45 has a cheesy looking frame. It just looks and feels cheap.

Mine will go out for a chop to 4.5" and threading tomorrow. It's a bit uglier than the newer ones, but that's okay.

If your sights are tough to see, you could always get it set up for a red dot.

COOL! Kind of reminds me of my uncle's old Honda 90 trail bike. He had a gun rack that he built mounted on it. That's how he hunted in Colorado 40 years ago!

As far as the Ruger 22, I can still hit fairly well with it but when younger I had 20/15 vision. I hit a squirrel right between the eyes at 20 yards. I could really shoot back then and now kick myself for not competing. You don't miss anything you never lose! Red Dot's are really cool though! I may have to go that route at some point.

Not to turn our little gun thread back towards politics... but this is worth sharing:

An individual, Wesley Felix, is claiming that Fast & Furious guns were pushed through his expired FFL using a forged signature.

Looking for further info on this now.

True if big.

The timeline is important.

A ( female ) anti-civil rights activist lied in a speech about how Mexican Drug gangs got guns from the U.S. and thus we should give up our rights.

The NRA pointed out she lied, repeatedly, in her speech. ( IIRC the Mexican Drug gangs get their machine guns from the Chinese Red Army Secret Police who import them by the ship load and stolen from the Mexican Army )

President Obama gave a speech repeating her lies.

The NRA, again pointed out the lies.

The Head of the Dept. Of Justice then started the program to make Obama's lies true by arranging, covering up, and in many cases outright refusing to allow agents in the field to stop the illegal gun running program. Honest U.S. citizens were threatened if they did not sell guns to shady characters. Lots of people have been killed by those guns.

Every one is the fault of Eric Holder and Barack Obama.

Sheryl Attkisson, reporter, was stalked, hacked, wiretapped, threatened, blackmailed, and career stalled at CBS News when she reported on Holder's lies, and crimes. http://sharylattkisson.com/ She's gone independent, and is a very good source on the Fast & Furious Crimes, since she's been on the case since the beginning.

Every time there was a press conference of Mexican officials parading around cartel guns supposedly all from the U.S. I had to roll my eyes. Like, yeah...promoting "gun control" in the U.S. is really going to send them cartels running skeered. Terrible people with worse tactics.

My 22/45 is on its way to get chopped to 4.5" and threaded. It'll be in the length I originally wanted it in and it'll be nice to use my own gun suppressed (I've been using the wife's).

https://www.lymanproducts.com/brands/pachmayr/hand gun-grips/revolver-grips.html

Pachmayr has a new grip for snub nose revolvers that carries short but extends a bottom bit for a better hold.

Not a revolution but a practical improvement.

As am I, but some people are very uncomfortable with a two finger grip.

Kimber did a frame change on their revolver after the first examples showed poor recoil control. It would rotate in the grip like a cowboy gun, 1873..... This wasn't cheap or easy, It's a CNC manufacturing process and all the computer files and real world fixtures had to change. But the pretty grip was a poor choice for a double action revolver. And despite the impact to shipping dates, they fixed it before letting us have them. Smart.

Single action , "plow handle" revolvers are logical in a pre-ergonomics era, allowing the pistol to rotate and be quickly thumb cocked. The fact that modern technique is faster and more accurate is a change that doesn't go backward in time.

I have friends, couples, that do Cowboy Action shooting and cosplay. My buddy's wife can shoot duelist style to good effect but when allowed shoots two handed and cleans the plate rack as fast as most can with a 1911.

The cool thing about the Mark IV is that you can swap the grip-frame from one gun to another.
I have a Target model (aluminum frame) and a 22/45 Tactical model (polymer frame).
Grip frame swaps take about 15 seconds.

I was looking at this picture:

I noticed the muzzle end with the dark coloring from being fired. I have a P227 in FDE. About the same color as the pistol. I am goofy and thinking of powder coating the muzzle end of mine to ape the dirt on this one.

All the sales "loopholes" are based on pure ignorance and nonsense.

Anyway, the snowflake cometh. We have half a gun. The top half will have the fancy bits on this one.

I used to say the stoners and the gunners need to get together, since government trying to control your life against your will is a common cause. Now the stoners have Colorado.

Jewish folk have http://jpfo.org/ and they are a great source for the history of gun racism. They are a pretty ignored section of the Jewish community it seems, and although you'd expect "never again" to resonate with Jews, the Prog/Com folk seem to have brainwashed many.

So gays are the next logical ally in the war government has upon people. While the Progressives seem to have a lock on the naturally Liberal gay community, the Democrat-Socialist support for Jew hating Arabs ( see brainwashed, above ) that dance when they can kill a lesbian or gay, is starting to sink in. There's a lot of public relations work to win anyone over to rational thought, and the social pressure on gays to conform is pretty much High School level burning intensity, but the message of "your life, your responsibility, your choice, not some politician's business" is true no matter if your cause is civil rights & freedom... or civil rights and freedom.

But to be fair, at least 2 of those shots would have taken out both of them.
Depending on caliber.

I assumed humor.

I ran, well, stumbled through, an IPSC course with hostage targets. Cardboard and not as detailed. The groans when someone hit a hostage were audible with earphones on. On a dare I was using my buddy's Charter Arms Bulldog .44 and was so slow on the reloads that there was no hope for me to beat half the field, much less place. On my last target I jokingly said something like "hey! You owe me money!" & the safety/timer guy told me not to kill the hostage, after all, maybe now he'd pay me. Good inspiration and a warning not to fool around with live ammo. Got 2 ten ring head shots & they gave me a "slowest rookie but no bad guys standing" joke award. ( paper badge made up on spot )

Post event analysis was that I should get a competitive gun, practice reloading, & might hit mediocre with practice. Also that every target was assuredly dead with a .44 special hollow point in the zone. As one judge put it, just because the gear was obsolete don't mean it doesn't work.

A dozen competitors asked for and got a chance to shoot the Bulldog and all agreed the owner was safe enough against anything in the hemisphere. ( retired Army ASA staff Sgt. with time in Berlin ) He placed fifth with his competition pistol. He carries the Bulldog. There were some fast, great shots there.
