Anyone have any recommendations for shipping an SX with loaded hard bags from NY to Las Vegas? Plan is to load the bike in NY then fly out to retrieve it and meander back over 2-3 weeks. This will take place in late April or early May. Sending my co-workers FJR out as well.

Dunno about shipping, but we spent a week out there back in October, no bikey, right after the shooting. LOTS of fun, but exhausting! Had the last 2 days in Laughlin NV, right at the river/border with AZ. Spent a day out and back to Oatman AZ, with a KILLER BBQ spot in between, run by a biker. I'll see if I can remember the BBQ joint.

Vegas was over the top, but Laughlin was more laid back- Oatman was a tourist town, complete with wild burros, lots of fun. I'd LOVED to do what you're planning. Be careful, I came back dead broke after trying SO hard not to.

If you're anywhere near a Forward Air terminal, it's a pretty good way to go.

Forward air looks pretty good especially since I am within 45 minutes of two terminals. Not too thrilled with the 1100 shipping quote or having to purge the tank.

This looks promising

Looks like I can save another 100 by moving from Las Vegas to San Diego but not sure how well I would deal with the city and traffic. Id like to get the bike and get out of civilization as quickly as possible.

When I bought my Firebolt, it was in WA. There's several on-line 'brokers' (my term) that will shop the bike and route for you and you get sent the quotes.
I ended up with Haulbikes.com. Maybe they were cheaper because they're out of Milwaukee and were basically heading back to the barn.
I will say their service was great. Tailgate to the driveway. No fuss no muss.

+1 on Haulbikes. Used them to ship a bike from ID to NC. Very professional, nice rig too.

I just signed a contract with haulbikes.com. I've used forwardair twice in the past, but this time the shipper is too far from one of their terminals. Haulbikes and forwardair were about the same price when I used them. Forwardair rolls the bike into a steel crate with doors on each end and locks it (with your lock), so you may have to remove the mirrors for clearance. They will also put accessories in the crate with the bike, helmets, jackets, etc. Haulbikes will not ship anything that's not part of the bike.

I've had great luck with U-Ship.com.

U-ship FTW

I've used them 4 or 5 times. Most recently to ship a Street Triple from Salt Lake to San Antonio for $340. Picked up one day delivered the next. Just have to be patient looking for someone already on your route and the deals are pretty damn good.

I didn't have any luck with uship. Lots of people respond, but they just say "hey, check us out". I had a prospect, but the stupid app will not let you communicate with the shipper unless they ask you a question, and then you only get one chance to reply. So between the stupid app and their rules about communication, and shippers who didn't want to bid, just wanted to communicate (using the app and its restrictions on communication) I said screw it and paid more for the privilege of actually speaking with someone on the telephone.

I'll have to check out Uship.
I'm toying with shipping my bike to FLA for Bike Week in March. The in laws are down there, and could serve as a delivery and pick up contact for me. The wife gets a trip to see mom n dad, a warm winter getaway, and I get to check one more bike event off my bucket list.
The other option was to take delivery of a heavy cruiser down there and arrange to ship it home. (less likely, but she already prefers bikes styled a giant pinwheeled parade float, with pirate costumed riders.)

Don't use the U-ship APP! It's pretty much trash. Use the desktop site exclusively, communication/bids/options much better...

I've used U-ship a number of times with good luck. It's best if you have flexible dates to accommodate the bidders who are trying to fill empty loads at specific times for THEIR schedule. You'll get plenty of bids all over the map. The most common annoyance is guys that want to bid outside the U-ship parameters, which would leave you without any help from U-ship if there was an issue. I respond to them all "Please provide your bid for consideration using the U-ship process."

If you're patient you find what you need, but having specific date restrictions will give you fewer options, for sure.

I've used Uship a handful of times and always had good results.

Even used them once for an "emergency" tow alternative when I broke down 250 miles from home. Put an ad on their app, got a bid for $300 within an hour, and the shipper arrived the following morning to take me and my Ulysses home. Emergency towing company quoted me $1800 for the same tow.

Nothing but good things to say about HaulBikes. Fast, fairly inexpensive and when I pulled up with my trailer (met the truck behind the closest Safeway), the driver was wiping my bike down with a chamois.

I would use them again if needed.

"met the truck behind the closest Safeway"

Of note is that they deliver in a full size tractor trailer. If the truck cannot turn around in your neighborhood, make arrangements to meet elsewhere.

The Daily Direct (haulbikes.com) guys used to haul the Buell Demo Fleet. Their trucks even look nearly the same.

This is true. The closest they could get to my house was 10 miles away. The driver told me that they carry maps that show where they are allowed to travel and "end of line" locations, such as the Safeway loading dock area and can get fined if they try to navigate closer. (although I have seen full sized semi's parked in the turn out at the top of my road. Turning around is a bit tricky)
