Wishing everyone that has good weather to keep riding as long as they can! My season pretty much over yesterday when I got a left knee repaired. Been putting it off but got tired at work on cement floors, little aches here n there. Point of not trusting knee when walking down stairs and especially at a stop light on uellymae. Better to call it quits while still on the upside. Now , I'm putting together a colon resection party that I've also been putting off for most of year. Thanks to high medical deductibles for that. Anyhow ,yall enjoy yourselves, family and holidays as all are precious! Mainly waited till hockey season kicked off so I wouldn't truly be so bored. Go Swamprabbits! |

Well, elective surgery is always better than emergency surgery plus you won't have to repair your bike, which always seems to follow my trips to the hospital. Good luck. I have no idea what a colon resection party is - and probably don't want to. Maybe it's a Texas thing that involves beer and BBQ. |

If you are anal now, a colon resection is something that will make you into a whole new kind of an ass hole! Best of luck with all that medical stuff! |

Had two new knees installed this last year. Don't hurt like the used ones. Riding resumes next year. I held off for years waiting for the tech to mature and from terror at getting my legs chopped off. Doc explained the tech wasn't changing and I tipped over when I stopped at the burger stand and the leg didn't work as usual. Bent a brake lever, broke a turn signal lens, & decided if I ever wanted to ride again I'd have to be a cyborg. Bike is fixed & I'm repaired & doing therapy. Probably need a new battery next spring. Good luck & Obey the physical therapist. Watch the drugs. I started asking when I could drive again and the nurse laughed at me. "You can't drive! You're on narcotics". Oh. Drugs make me stupid. Got clean fast. Occasional Advil now vs. Daily pain drugs. Much better. |

Thanks for all the well wishes, guys! Colon thing has come about after 5 infections in less than 2 years and recommendation is to cut that piece out. Funny thing is , this isn't so age related. A 34 yr old on Boston bruins is gonna be out of play for 8 weeks for the same thing. Story is , get those colonoscopys and pay heed. We've lost a number of friends and neighbors to colon cancer cuz they just didn't get their selves checked regurly. No , I don't want to be cut on, but the alternative of wearing a bag forevermore or being dead is worse. I plan on being around till 115 or so. Good to have a plan, eh? |

I agree, watch the drugs! I got off the heavy stuff within 4 days and I was already plugged up!! I guess those that get addicted don't eat much! 500 mg of ibuprofen worked good enough for me. |

Yeah, they don't talk about this on tv. Opiates shut down the peristalsis muscles. .. or makes them very sleepy. ( the muscles that move food through you after you eat.... all the way through you ) I can only assume you're right about addicts. I'm lucky that what they gave me was effortless to give up. I was on Demerol for three days years ago and had classical reactions. Shakes, shivering, nausea. Mild, not French Connection 2 horrors, but not fun. The Demerol was when I had a broken jaw and was wired up for a month. Lots of shakes and protein powder. I dreamed of solid food. Decided Arthur Treacher's fish and chips was my first solid meal. ( high protein, easy to chew ) Then found the muscles had stiffened up and could only open up about 5/16". Did not stop me. Didn't care that I looked like a crazy person shoving tiny bits in. Took a few days to get back to normal. Have patience and listen to the therapy folk. |
