A guy stabbed you in the neck. You can by any reasonable standard be in fear for your life. He keeps trying to kill you... the threat is real, and ongoing. The simple fact that the robber is still alive shows that excessive force was not used. A dead robber isn't even excessive force in this case. Totally justified self defense to stop the attack. Period. How many times you have to hit, or stab or shoot someone until they quit trying to kill you makes zero difference to the fact that he didn't stop trying to kill you. The question of the wisdom of acting like a responsible adult and interfering in a robbery is another matter. I approve, evil men wouldn't, nor, apparently do their mothers. Worst aspect of this kind of case is that it discourages people from using just enough force to stop an assault if you're only going to have your life ruined even more by lawsuits. When the insanity of the Justice system makes it "better" to just kill people who might sue you for stopping their fun.............. | ||

If you take it to an extreme....ANYTHING can be termed "microaggression". "I want to masturbate in public and you won't let me - that's aggression against me, and oppression, and I'm going to file a complaint against it". Where does it stop? Hey, I've long complained about stupid or oppressive rules. I'm not allowed to buy beer before noon on Sunday. The shaman of the Christians lobbied this law to reduce competition for their audience. Honestly the only times it's bothered me is when I worked late shift and couldn't buy a beer to drink before bed.... or was supposed to bring beer to a picnic. But I also can't buy a beer at 6 am. ( part of the make all the drunks hit the road at the same time rule). I could pick on other stupid rules but that's a good example of rules we could argue about. ( not that I particularly care to right now ) Rules we can't argue about sometimes aren't rules. Like say something offensive and expect feedback. If I say all Christians are meat eating Neanderthals, I can't complain if people complain. ( Cro-Magnon anyway, and not all Christians take communion.  ) Btw I don't say that. It's just an example & I picked a group that is popular to mock because they seldom burn you alive for it. Much. Anymore.  . | ||

There's a difference though. You aren't turning your 6am beer complaint into a national issue and expecting the world to bend to your will. It's a rule. You don't like it. You move on. And buy beer the night before. Like a grownup. You don't piss and whine and expect the world to take your side "because it makes you sad". | ||

It took me a while to adjust to the "blue laws" here in Georgia, but now I just keep a shit ton of alcohol in stock at the house at all times. Problem solved. I'm never buying today's liquor... it's always for the future. | ||

I grew up in Colorado, knowing I could not buy hard alcohol on Sunday. It was still a surprise several years ago when I pulled up, got out of my car and yanked on the door to find it would not open. Had to pull that door again and the one next to it before I remembered the law. Yes I was triggered. I am happy to live in California where I can get all my liqueur needs met at any grocery store at any time of day. 3.2% beer has not seen my belly in decades. | ||

3.2% beer has not seen my belly in decades. Just for educational purposes, 3.2 beer is actually 4%. In order to pacify the anti alcohol league the breweries came out with 3.2% beer. However they measured it by weight instead of by volume because it's less by weight. So it's really 4% and regular Bud Light or Busch is 4.2%. Regular Bud is 5%. That concludes our beer history minute! | ||

When I was much younger, in Nebraska you could drink 3.2 beer at 16, regular beer at 18, and hard liquor at 21. My kid sister went away to college in Buffalo NY, when the drinking age was 18, as was she. The local liquor store delivered to the dorms. Then they raised the age to 19. Suddenly she wasn't allowed to drink. Then she turned 19, and all was rosy. Until a year later when they raised the drinking age to 21, and she got oppressed, again. I thought she had every right to burn the Capitol down. And despite all the propaganda about raising the age so that you don't learn to drink and drive at the same time, the real reason to raise the drinking age was the old farts angry that the new kids were taking over their bars, just like they did years before. This unfair and dishonest law means a 18 year old can die for his country, drive a tank, get crabs & absinthe in Germany, then be not allowed a beer when he comes home. Total bull. Anyway, BBQ after church? | ||

My younger brother got caught up in that too. He turned 19 and could drink for 4 months and they changed the law to 21 on Jan. 1st and he was screwed! Good thing he had an older brother! | ||

I needed that Torque! Been a tough couple of weeks and the laugh helped. My triggered rage included shouts of desperation, flipping off the door that would not open and a few curse words. Then I went back to the hotel and drank. Yeah, I'm a lightweight rager. I remember going to Nebraska to drink. Crashed at my cousins house when I couldn't make it home. When they raised the drinking age, I joined the Navy. Show a military ID and just about any bar would let you in. | ||

Colorado's liquor laws got changed a few years ago. Used to have to drive north to Cheyenne for Sunday booze. no more. My "regular stop" liquor store is closed ONE day a year - Christmas. Z |
