10/4! See what I did there? Actually, I hope to be having dinner with Buellish tonight and I'm not sure what kind of Mexican food is around Dahlonega. I did have tacos for lunch yesterday, however...so I guess I was ahead of the curve! | ||

I'm going to have to pass. Long Island just got their first Tilted Kilt and I'm heading over there for lunch today. Hope it's as good as the one in Indianapolis. That's the only other one I've ever been to. | ||

1313 - Pueblo's in Dahlonega is a mandatory Mexican food stop when I am on a motorcycle trip in the Dahlonega area. It is in the downtown area. | ||

The Mexican contribution to Our Melting Pot cannot be denied. Some great food. I find that most people haven't had real Mexican food, just Taco bell. I will admit Taco bell to real Mexican isn't as big a jump as La Choy Chow Mien in a can is to real Chinese. Going to go heat up some Chili. That's as cross border as it gets. | ||

I am a huge fan of Taco Bell. I just don't pretend it's Mexican food. At most it's Americanized pseudo Mexican food. I accept it for what it is and enjoy. I'm currently living in Phoenix. Around here it's hard to get bad Mexican. So far my favorite is Manuel's, a local chain with 5 or 6 places around the valley. | ||

There are several taco places near my home. They make the tortilla when you order your food. And I loves me some horchata to go along with them. | ||

Does a Mexican cook in El Paso make better Mexican food than a Mexican cook in New York City? I know a few places in the Northeast where you can get some really good BBQ. I bet there are some kick ass Mexican food joints, as well. The best Mexican food I ever had was from a little "Mom & Pop" restaurant in Albuquerque called Paco's back in 1969. Great Food! | ||

Here in Rochester we have had good authentic Mexican restaurants. But the business is so difficult that I only know one still running. But it's an old survivor. I used to have to go to the bodega stores in the Puerto Rican 'hoods to buy salsa tomotica. No where else, certainly no big supermarket chains. Today it out sells ketchup. More recently the influx of students and immigrants have introduced me to food from India, Turkey, Syria/every other middle eastern, and Dominican Republic.... and..... and..... There are days when my mouth won't stop watering as I go from building to building and get hit with curry or marinara or szechuan smells. And the occasional unidentified odor that literally has me going to my knees outside as I wait to breath again. | ||

Best Mexican food I ever had the pleasure of trying was when I lived in Yuma, AZ. It was off of a blue food truck with Mexican license tags and run by some older than dirt Latina grandmother type. She parked around 12th and Avenue 3 and catered to the agricultural works in the area. Very often I was the only English speaker in the crowd. Dang but that ol' lady sure could cook. I love taco bell. Their "hot sauce" sucks however. I wish you could just get chiles added into whatever you order. 3 tell-tale signs of a GOOD mexican restaurant: 1. Behind the restaurant you'll find 1 Escalade and a half-dozen bicycles. 2. The salsa is different every time you go there. 3. Traditional Mariachi on the PA, soccer on the TV's. I LOVE good mexican food. | ||

My SO is Dominican. Got home from Vegas after 26 hours traveling, NO WAY we were cooking. Pulled out a frozen, homemade burrito that she'd made several weeks ago, made with her own picadillo, plus cilantro from the back deck, and homemade sauce... YUM. After all the good food in Vega$$$ that we ate, that burrito was EVERY BIT as tasty. SO glad to be home. |
