A Greek Life retreat at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) was promptly cancelled this weekend after a banana peel was found hanging in a tree.
“To be clear, many members of our community were hurt, frightened, and upset by what occurred at IMPACT,” Interim Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life Alexa Lee Arndt remarked in an email between Greek leaders, according to The Daily Mississippian. “Because of the underlying reality many students of color endure on a daily basis, the conversation manifested into a larger conversation about race relations today at the University of Mississippi.”
Apparently, student Ryan Swanson admitted to discarding the banana peel in a tree after he was unable to locate a garbage can, and it was later spotted by Alpha Kappa Alpha President Makala McNeil, who leads one of the campuses historically black sororities.
According to The DM, some students left the retreat in tears, with McNeil noting that they “didn’t feel welcome” and “didn’t feel safe.”
“Right now, we’re just talking to people on campus who have some experience working across diversity to help the students process what happened,” she added.
I'm pretty sure that what happened is someone littered a banana peel.
I guess bananas must be removed from all grocery stores now for racial sensitivity. All banana trees in any US state or territory must also be removed to prevent any future hurt snowflake self image. The banana doesn't fall far from the tree you know.
And just think of that lack of proper recycling. Left to just decay in the open and not a compost heap? Left to possibly make a 'court' land on it's head trying to figure out the insensitive lack of trash receptacles.
Bananas grow on trees. How is a banana in a tree offensive? This has to be one of those fake articles meant to bait conservative news outlets. I hope so, anyway.

Where? Someplace where dumbasses are put in prison or killed by the secret police?
Like public nudity, free speech required you to deal with the bad and the good. I'd enjoy Mila Jovovich running around topless, Rosie O'Donnell, not so much. Your comments have to be tolerated just like the anarcho-communist antifa. You can argue with me or them only if we all are not silenced.
Popular speech doesn't need protection. Today that means the Propaganda shill for Islamic slavery is celebrated but the Woman who tells the truth is vilified. Shut up either you have a bad situation. Shut up you? Still bad.
I support to their deaths your right to worship as you choose. Doesn't mean I won't mock your silly beliefs. Your choice & my choice are just as protected in a free society.
( Doesn't mean I will mock you.... but I reserve the right to )
Taste is taste. I like a variety. I picked Mila for her fame, the ready availability of nude photos, ( so you could compare and contemplate ) and her contrast with the less appealing option.
Angelina Jolie was my first thought, but she's had surgery and didn't give the contrast.
The point is that with Breasts and Speech, you'll like some folks' but not others'.
Both have to be freely out there to appreciate or be repelled by.
As analogy goes it's imperfect but I find it visually stimulating.
See? There are many fine choices for top free rights examples. Jennifer Lawrence is another good example. She has the right to show her assets, and her lovely ass in her free speech.
I appreciate the former and dislike the latter ( her views, not her fundament ) and accept that both are part of the package.
It would be nice if Hollywood had less group think and political pressure, but it may be unrealistic to expect actors who's talent is pretending to be someone else, to have any grasp of history or ability to discern lies.
