https://www.space.com/12464-earth-moon-unique-sola r-system-universe.html Which is what I was taught. But whilst searching for that link, I found this. http://davidwaltham.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03 /EPSC2013-37.pdf Meh. No such thing as settled science. |

I watched it some using my welding helmet. I had it turned up to 15. Worked well. Quality tools are cool. |

We had a great view of it here RIGHT up until the point of the total eclipse, when clouds obscured it. It was completely hidden by clouds during the total eclipse; we didn't get to see the corona at all. Still it was pretty cool. Last total eclipse here was in 1970 when I was 14. |

I don't even have words to describe what we saw today, suffice to say that I was literally dumbstruck by nature's wonders.
You're probably wondering what that bright spot is in a few of the pictures, sort of off to the left there... I submit to you, he is a space man of some sort.
Here is what the patio at the winery looked like just about 1 minute before the Totality:
And here it is during the Totality.
Thanks to our friend Joe Smith for his brilliant wine making skills and for opening up his joint for this private party. I'll remember this for the rest of my life, and I know my wife and daughter will as well. (Message edited by pwnzor on August 21, 2017) |

Wait...you're saying the dark side of the moon was obscured by clouds? |

Supposedly had 92.57% coverage here at 2:48 p.m. It was nowhere near as dark as I expected it to be. It made me feel like the lenses in my eyeglasses had started to darken. I decided to take pics of my 1125CR at the peak. Don't look all that dark, do they?

It got pretty dark here. Look at the patterns on the road.

The main thing I noticed just before the Totality was that it got a bit cooler. Then, a shadow swept across the ground at 1800 miles per hour and it got... dark. All at once. About 90 seconds later, we had a sunrise effect all the way around the horizon. In a word, awesome. |

In Wy it looked impressive. In Fl it was just a bit dim and nicely cooler. Mostly a yawn like all 'great events' in the sky. Hubble or spy satellite in the pic? |

Confirmed, it was the ISS. Which... makes the pictures that much more awesome. |

IT. WAS. SPECTACULAR. We stayed home, made the best batch of chili and cornbread EVAAR, had finger snacks of some crabcakes from work. My GF's daughter and fiancée made it to their destination, but due to some serious asshattery (dude pilled out, cussed his mom, scared his daughter, T went into Hulk mode, dude/punk got slammed/pinned and a free night's room and board NOT home...) they didn't enjoy as they should have. They got to visit with us later in the evening, we calmed her down to chill. As a consequence her guest list for her wedding will be altered. Wish they'd had listened to us... could have just stayed here, or gone to a BBQ on the river, or out with my best buddy, nekkid on a 'toon on the lake, which I'd have preferred meself. All's well that ends well. We had a great time, didn't get out with the loons, found out my sis in Little Rock got to share her glasses with several patients at the hospital, and a soda delivery guy who said "Holy Moses!!" |

Never did get a pair of Eclipse glasses they were either sold out or recalled so I watched it get slowly darker then it got a lot darker. So I put on my sunglasses and watched for about a minute. I noticed that there were no shadows on the ground but when the sun first peaked around the moon there was instant shadows again. I got to see the corona as red feather shapes all around the moon. I also got to see the moon as the ancients must have seen it as a dark brooding thing devouring the sun. |

Traffic on I-25 was unbelievable. Took 3 hours to get to Glendo, WY. Got there about 5:30am and spent time visiting with other observers, Totality fir almost 3 minutes, Looking at the corona with the filters off the binocs was amazing, it was about 3x as big as any pix I've seen, Blue and red dots at the edges. I thought the spot to the left was a star... ISS> -very cool. It took FOURTEEN hours to get home. What a day!!!! |
