I was at Pike's Nursery yesterday, and this fuzzy pterodactyl-sized beast flew past my head... so I grabbed my phone and just started snapping away.

Somehow this reminds me of a trip through the badlands. We were at one of the pulloffs where you could look at the geological formations when a guy on a very custom chopper rolls in. Tattoos, leathers, etc. Very stereotypical "biker type". He gets off his bike, grabs his camera, and after looking around a bit, he starts taking macro shots of wild flowers.

Cool shots BTW.

Great pics, buddy! Those blue ones sometimes congregate up on the Cherohala Skyway, beautiful, but lots of them end up on the side of the road... hopefully they were successful in mating and making more gorgeous bugs.

The aquarium in Chattanooga has a butterfly room, awesome, and they have several chrysalis set up so you can watch as they hatch!

Thanks for sharing. Here at my house we're enjoying the hummies, got a few females, a juvenile male, and a papa male. We've got enough feeders going to make like a "hummingbird truckstop"... not nearly as many birds as last year for some reason, but kewl when we see them anyway.

On one of the last trips I made to Newfoundland we happened across an "Insectarium" in Reidville. Since we weren't in any kind of a hurry, we stopped to take a look around.

Besides the hundreds of dead, mounted specimens they also had tons of live insects and an absolutely spectacular Butterfly Garden. Somewhere I probably have photographs stashed away but my visit was during the dawn of the digital photography era so I may only have prints that I'll have to scan. It was a fantastic experience and my wife (girlfriend at the time) was very happy we took the time to stop.

Neat.

Wild Seed Farms just east of Fredericksburg, Texas has an amazing "butterflyhause". They also have beer on tap, an amazing cactus garden, and all kinds of wild flowers.

Michele and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of the mountain climbing expeditions up K2, the hard way, was climbing on a snow ridge very near the top when a cloud of Monarch butterflies stopped on the mountain fro a breather, all over the snow and on the ropes connecting them together. Then the flutterbyes went on their merry migration way. Incredible distances.
