OK. Hope yesterday, and the rest of the week go well. Let the cleaning games begin! On another note, it may be time for an attitude refreshment. If circumstances find you in Cincinnati the weekend of 3 June, there will be a mile dirt track event in Lexington, Ky. Only 100ish miles one way for you. I have already made plans to attend . . . |

SUPER congrats, Homie Crust! Despite the colors, that house looks to have very good "bones"... you'll have fun making it your own! Remember, Habitat Re-Store, Goodwill and various home salvage outfits will save you LOTS of $$$! Oh, also see if there are any "Bargain Hunt" stores near you- we've got them around here, I use mine all the time! Keep the pics coming! Yay!! (Message edited by 86129squids on May 29, 2017) |

... Google lists 2 Cinci Habitat locations, 2 Bargain Hunts, and SCADS of Goodwill locations! Awesome Sauce! Habitat in particular, at least mine, has appliances, furniture, housewares, toilets, tubs/hot tubs, even roofing shingles! Check 'em out! |

When looking for paint, ask if they have some that was mixed wrong. White is white for closets and basements. I need to look and see if I have some rollers etc. up in the attic. |

+1 on the Habitat re-store. You can find amazing deals, especially if you can find a store close to an expensive area of town. People redecorate at the drop of a hat and donate nearly new NICE stuff. (Message edited by Hughlysses on May 29, 2017) |

What RD said... Habitat here has a big selection of paints/stains/etc- we sampled several stains to finish my kitchen remodel, then just decided to paint everything. We'd had to match about 3-5 different wood stains and grains, yeesh. We visited our good friend today, who missed her calling as a chef- her electric range took a dump, and I'm on the hunt now to help her grab a nice replacement. "Honey, I think I want stainless/black/white _____" produces more opportunity than you would ever think! Personally, I'm scanning for a rich guy's replaced, high end gas grill after today. I've about worn mine out! |

While Waiting For Water Things have been crazy for the past few days. I haven’t had time to write any Snippets, nor have I been in the proper mindset. My thoughts have been all centered around getting the house livable. I supplied the Greater Cincinnati Water Works with a copy of my properly signed (by both seller and buyer) HUD-1 form, and now they’re going to turn on the water today. I hope. I got the automated phone call last night that they’re supposed to come today. Since I’ve been living here since Friday, it would be nice if I could take a shower here, or wash things in the sink, or even just brush my teeth without resorting to using bottled water. My next door neighbor has been letting me fill a 5 gallon bucket from his back yard spigot, so I can use that to flush the toilet. For showers, I’ve been going over to my brother’s house. Don came down from Buffalo, and we got the plumbing sorted (I hope), and a few other things fixed, as well. I had to get a flange pipe for the toilet and install it; then I discovered that I needed to replace the toilet. Don sweated the pipes and fittings necessary on the water lines and showed me how to do it, so hopefully, if there’s any other problem, I can do the repair myself. The repair to the soil pipe worked well with no leaks, so at least I can use the toilet. I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning. It’s taking me a lot longer to clean everything than I think it should. It took me almost a full day just to get the bathroom clean. I borrowed my brother’s vacuum cleaner, and it took almost a full day to get three rooms properly vacuumed. I had to empty the dirt collector cup three times. The carpet is still filthy, though. I’m going to have to rent a rug shampooer to get the dirt out. It needs to be replaced, but that’s going to have to wait a while. There’s a “Pantry” closet just off the kitchen; it had all kinds of crap all over the shelves, walls and floor. It’s clean now, but it took almost all day yesterday for me to get it that way. My knees are very sore from being on them so much, but once I finally get the kitchen floor clean, I shouldn’t need to do much more kneeling. I’ve gone through a bottle and a half of Fantastic, and there’s a ton more stuff that needs attention, so I’ll be cleaning for a while yet. Next month, I’m going to buy paint. The living room, dining room and bathroom are painted pink. The dining room and bedroom also have wallpaper that needs to be removed. There’s a border of foot wide paper with roses printed on it in both rooms, and the dining room has this hideous vertically striped pink and white paper along the lower three feet of the dining room. I’ll be renting a steamer for that. I’ve had a few people suggest a painting party. Well; once I have the money to buy the paint, we’ll see. I don’t have Internet at the house yet, so I haven’t been able to keep up with everything and everyone. I’m typing this on Wednesday morning around 8:30, but I don’t know when I’ll be able to send it out. Hopefully, the courteous and enthusiastic gentleman from the GCWW will arrive soon, and I’ll be able to go over to David’s or even McDonald’s. There’s so much more going on that I haven’t even mentioned, like the incredible gift of pots, pans, cooking utensils and flatware from Tammy that arrived yesterday, but much of the details will have to wait. I really need to get back on my knees and clean the cabinet shelves so I can put them away. I really hope that bureaucratic jackass helpful fellow shows up soon. |

Don't feel too bad about the dirt John. My wife spends days cleaning every time we move into a new place. I hope we are done moving now. Any wish list of house things that could help? Some of us have extra things we will never use. Do us a favor and help one or two of us to get rid of something. |

Very Briefly The water got turned on yesterday afternoon around 3:00. A burst pipe immediately started pissing on the basement wall. Then the battery in David’s car died. We got the battery replaced, I went to Home Depot and bought a hundred bucks worth of tools then sweated a valve on the line to shut off the leak. I found more leaks that I’m going to address this morning. I will get this sorted out. This is my home. Gotta run. |

Good luck brother. I was defeated by plumbing so many times I used to dread it. After a while I learned enough and started winning more often. Now it is not scary to me. I don't know why it didn't come easy to me. Just keep plugging away. |

@ plumbing issues: Check out the range of "Sharkbite" products that are out there. Whomever invented those probably owns a Carribean island or something! They're like magic- cut out the bad section of pipe, measure carefully a replacement section, get the right Sharkbite connectors, click, click, done! The first time I used them I was completely amazed at their simplicity of use and efficacy. I suck at lots of house fixin' jobs, that time I was a hero! Good luck Homie Crust! |

John, Ourdee is right! Please put together a list of things that you need for the house. I know a lot of us have extra house stuff that we would gladly hook you up with. Need any cups/glasses? I have more than a few 16oz glasses from the bar. Let us know. Oh and I have a good amount of moving boxes for you when you get back. Do you need a lawnmower? I have an extra push mower. |

Jim; Yes! I need a mower. I've got most of the kitchen stuff I'll need, but there's always something that I don't have. I should write a Snippet, but I'm so tired, I'm just going to head for the house and get to bed early. I fixed all the water leaks, and now comes faucet repair. Both taps for the bathroom sink are leaking. And I'm having trouble getting the hot water heater working. ...sigh... Tomorrow will be a new day. |
