I wish I had Paintshop or some similar program. I can just picture the house painted Molten Orange with Nuclear Blue Shutters. And the White portions could be Reactor Yellow! Maybe a paint party isn't such a good idea... |

Badweb painting party. That house would look great in Barricade Orange. Listed 15 days ago, talk about a hot market. And a 0.18 acre lot, easy maintenance. Congrats. |

Curve Ball #1 Today, I have to ride to Cincinnati. I have to be there in person to sort out some stuff, so, I’ll be out the door as soon as I finish my morning coffee. Because it’s an HUD house, there are all kinds of rules, and if you don’t follow them exactly, they drop you and move on to the next offer. I wonder what other curve balls are waiting in the wings? Well; I wanted a life that isn’t boring. I got one. Ain’t it Great?!!!? |

Congrats on the house! I've been following the thread because houses have always interested me since childhood and it led me to study architecture in college. A whole lot of good that did me. I studied a lot of big prestigious houses but that was decades ago, so now I like looking at Tinyhouses and more practical things instead. This place is unusually small but with basement garage, screened porch and backyard it looks perfect for you. It is ridiculously cute with that front porch and high slope roof. Hope the paperwork falls into place. |

Good News !!! Really glad to hear it! Now, take a deep breath or three, and move on to the next step(s). Be especially careful going to Cincy - do not let the destination cloud the work of actually getting there. And, on the bright side, if all comes to fruition, you already have a 'bunkhouse' in the back of the yard for your rowdy friends. This will work. Dave |

I-80, Ohio I’m in a McD’s just over the PA/OH border. it’s literally freezing (32º F). However, it’s supposed to warm up to nearly 70, so I can put up with it for now. Yesterday’s ride was an exhausting one. It was cold with intermittent rain ranging fro a mist to a downpour. Traffic was crazy. I passed one accident where an SUV was on its roof on an exit ramp near Wilkes-Barre. I was on High Alert the whole time I was on the bike. I was too busy surviving to let my head run away with thoughts and worries about the house. I stayed at a Motel 6 and when I pulled up to the office, I could barely get off the bike, I was so exhausted. I forced myself to go get some dinner, and when I got back to the room, I was nodding off at 8:00. I figured a hot shower would be just what I needed to get a solid night’s sleep, but I was wrong. The shower woke me up! I had a hell of a time falling asleep after that. Still, I slept well enough once I fell asleep. I got up this morning and hit the road. I’ve come about 35 miles, and I saw the golden arches, so I pulled off the highway. I really needed a cup of coffee, and I really needed to pee. I take Furosemide to help my body get rid of excess water, and it’s working well this morning. I figure it’s about 4 1/2 hours travel time to David’s house from here (I could be wrong), so I think I’ll arrive around mid afternoon. I have a stack of e-mails from Amy (the Realtor). I think they’re forms that need to be downloaded and “Wet” signed (as opposed to an e-signature). I haven’t even looked at them. I’ll sit down with David and print them out after I arrive in Cincy. Well, this Macca’s doesn’t have electrical outlets and my battery charge rate is dropping pretty quickly. I’ll stop now. |

Hold on, guys; Let's not hatchet our Counts before they Chicken. There are a LOT of things that can still go wrong and cause the deal to not go through. Let's just wait until my acquiring the house is an accomplished fact. One thing is certain; if I do get the house, you're ALL invited to the housewarming Party. |

Moving Ahead I started a Snippet about how dealing with Money People is so stressful for me, but then all the money people I dealt with today were nothing but friendly and helpful. Don’t get me wrong, doing all this has got my stressed meter pegged at maximum, but that’s all on me. It’s actually looking like it might just happen. Boy; won’t that be a kick in the head! All the paperwork has been filled out and signed and it’s all on its way to (I think) Pennsylvania where some bureaucratic type will do whatever bureaucratic types do with all that paperwork. I’m hoping that it’s all acceptable - all the Tees are dotted and all the Eyes are crossed wherever they’re supposed to be and that we can move on to the next phase of this purchase; which is, I think, the Home Inspection. I’ll probably have to be here for that, so, I’ll be making the trek from Hudson to Cincy again in the near future. I’m thinking that I’ll head back to Mass on Wednesday. I need at least one more day to recover from the ride down and all the stress I’ve been feeling for the past couple of days. I think I signed my name or initialed things somewhere near 150 times. It felt like a lot more One thought that I had was that I can walk into a car dealership, sign my name a couple of times and drive away in a pickup or SUV that costs more than my house a whole lot easier than I can buy a house for. And, if I don’t pay on the house, they don’t even have to send out a Tow Truck to Repo it. It’s not like I’m about to drive it across a State Line. The house isn’t going anywhere. Things can sure be screwy sometimes. Oh, well; that’s the way it crumbles, cookie wise. Yesterday morning, it occurred to me that I really have lived a Blessed Life. I mean, I’ve gotten to travel and I’m getting my own house. Yeah, I’m going to have to work my butt off fixing it up and maintaining it, and I’m going to have to buy all kinds of stuff for it, but it will be my house. My own home. Boy, that’s so cool I can’t even begin to describe the feeling. I’m already thinking about how I’m going to want to set up the Basement with the NoMar and my tools, and what’s going to be in the garage besides the bikes. No cars or other crap; well, maybe the snowblower in the winter, but that’s it. I don’t want to get too carried away; there are still many things that can go wrong and stop the sale, but I’m still human, and I’m just dreaming a bit. If it does fall apart, it’ll hurt like hell, though. I’ve got someone lined up to help get the plumbing sorted out, and David knows someone who does HVAC who’ll check out the heat and AC. Those are the two biggest concerns. After that, I can focus on paint and other stuff. I think I’m going to have to get a refrigerator, and a washer and drier and some furniture. The only furniture I have is a small kitchen table and a couple of chairs to go with it. However; this isn’t the first time I’ve had to start over from scratch. I know what need to be done, and I can do it. So; this evening, I’m feeling pretty flipping’ optimistic. There’s a good bit of work ahead, but the rewards will be tremendous. I’m psyched! |

Great to hear, John! Around here our Habitat Re-Stores do a great job... I've seen some great appliances, even pallets of roofing shingles, an almost new gas smoker for $25 (GRABBED that for a friend!), no telling. Mine even had a 3 ton HVAC unit, never used, for silly cheap money. Bought my 55 gallon aquarium, with stand, hoods, lights, and chemicals for cheep there. I've also got a used appliance guy- years ago I sold him a beautiful Heritage Softail. Got my fridge off Craigslist, my favorite, its design is simpler and quieter than lots of new ones I've seen. It's amazing to me how it works when someone's wife says she wants stainless steel, or they remodel, or... any number of reasons they dump absolutely fine items! Where's that dang popcorn emoticon?!?! (Message edited by 86129squids on April 25, 2017) |

I think your brother can stand in for you on the inspection. My realtor and bank did paperwork with me from a State away over the internet. When you need help, Indianapolis isn't that far away. Just ask! |

Toto Too? I feel like Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz. Since last Friday afternoon, my head has been spinning like I’ve been caught in a twister. Here’s a brief recap. On Friday, I’d gone out to run some errands. The weather radar showed that the rain had passed, and the forecast was for overcast, but no more rain. I got soaked. When I got back to the house, I got out of my wet gear and into my sweats and, since I hadn’t slept well the night before, decided to take a nap. As soon as I lay down, the phone rang. It was Amy, the Realtor telling me that our offer for the house had been accepted. It had been passed over a few days earlier, but I guess HUD changed their minds. Any idea of sleep was completely destroyed. I started calling my friends and family and spreading the news. A few hours later, Amy sent me enough information to make me realize that I needed to come to Cincinnati and sign a lot of Important Documents in person. They had to be “Wet” signed, an e-signature was not acceptable. So, Saturday morning, I headed out. I didn’t sleep very well on Friday night, and combined with the cold rain showers and crazy drivers, I did an exhausting 500 mile day. On Sunday, the weather improved to very nice, but the drivers were every bit as brain dead. The icing on the cake was that Amy expected to meet with me and David at 4:00 that afternoon. We made the appointment on time (barely), and I signed my name about 150 times (it felt like more). Monday morning, I had to open an account locally and get an Official letter of sufficient funds and a Certified check for the deposit on the house, and also fill out another couple of forms. I brought all the required paperwork to Amy at her office, and her manager looked everything over, had her change the wording on a couple of documents, and all the paperwork went off to a bureaucratic warren somewhere in Pennsylvania. At that point, I was ready to head back to Massachusetts. I figured that I’d spend Tuesday here to rest up a little more, then head out on Wednesday morning. However; yesterday afternoon, Amy sent me an E-mail stating that my offer was accepted and the contract would be executed in 2 to 3 Business Days. So, This morning, I called a home inspection service and the electric company and got everything set up for a Tuesday morning Inspection. I then called Amy and relayed the information. While I had her on the phone, I told her that I’d like to see the inside of the house. I hadn’t seen it yet, other than the photos in the listing and the photos that David took when he first went there. So, today, I finally got to see what I’m buying. (Personally, I think I’m stealing it at that price!) At any rate, I’ll be here until next Wednesday. While the Inspection is on Tuesday, the report won’t be ready until then. If everything is copacetic, It will be about three weeks before I have to return for the final bout of signatures and then it’ll be mine. Things have been so chaotic in my head since Friday, I have to remind myself to breathe. Everything is falling into place so quickly, it’s scary. I look at the house and I can see dollar signs floating by as I try to figure out what needs to be done and in what order. There’s a lot of things on that list, but little by little, I’ll chip away at it and it will get done. I know where my money will be going for a while. So I’m going to be in Cincinnati for a few more days. Hopefully, things will start to calm down and I’ll be able to breathe without having to focus on doing that. |
