For all you Rider Coaches. There is a new game in rider training. Motorcycle Ohio has taken the best parts of the MSF and Idaho STAR programs and came up with a GREAT training program. Exercise 1 is pretty much the same as the MSF (Motorcycle Familiarization) But with Friction Zone added at the end Exercise 2 Getting Underway This is a game changer. The riders are staged at the end of the range for ex.1 Exercise 1 ends with practicing the friction zone. Then we have the riders "Walk with Power" to the starting point of Exercise 2. They then walk with power from cone to cone down the long sides of the range. They then make a left or right and proceed up the middle from cone to cone. NO MORE STOPPING TO TURN AROUND AND FINDING NEUTRAL!! This keep the riders riding. After some time we stop all the riders on the long side of the range for part 2. They ride from the start cone to the double cones at the middle of the range and stop. Then to the end of the range for another stop and back up the middle. After we have done that for awhile we move to Part 3. Riding the length of the Range with a normal stop at the end. During the exercise we tell them we want them to "BRISKLY" accelerate. By the end of part 3 we are looking for pre shift speed! It has all but eliminated stalling! A pic of the range card
I will post up more exercises tomorrow.... Feel free to ask questions. This new way of doing things has re-lit the fire for me! |

Very cool, Mark! Post up as things progress. An old, great buddy passed last year- he was the longtime coordinator of the MSF program here at Smoky Mountain HD. I'll see if I can pass any new info along. |
