Wondering what people are doing for dashcams??? Seems that every year the drivers around me are getting worse, to the point where I'd like to have some indication of what happened when they find me dead on the side of the road. I also want to build an "idiot of the day" youtube channel to take selected bits from my commute, yes I do generally have at least one idiot each day and I'm sure I could count on other people to help fill the channel. Anyway, I'm thinking about the Innovv K1 http://www.innovv.com/the-k . I want front and back cameras ('cause we never get rear ended) and water proof cameras (the DVR is not water proof). Since I ride an Ultra, I have the little storage spaces in the lower fairing to hold the DVR or I could put it in one of the three cases in back. I know a few of you use things like a GoPro (or other action cam), but that takes too much effort each ride (I've used them in the past), I want something that is just installed and all I need to do is grab the SD card if I want to save something and it will start recording when the ignition is turned on or motor running |

Greg_a said " yes I do generally have at least one idiot each day..." Me too. I ride all year and in Wisconsin that alone is sometimes difficult without some idiot tailgating me! I would think front and rear cams would be ideal. I'd mount them so that if you were involved in a hit/perp checks your status/possibly steals/and then they run, at least would not have your cameras as well. That would bear some excellent facts in a court setting! And, if you are still alive, you could narrate for the judge. Good idea you have. |

I see a kickstarter project...there's a niche. |

I've been looking into this for a while, but nothing yet has convinced me to pull the trigger. I have a nice dashcam on my truck and want similar functionality on my bikes. Like you said, a GoPro is a pain in the ass but I'm yet to find something that works better. |

I no longer exclusively commute on my bikes, but I did for a period of about 3 years. My commute is about 120 miles round trip and I encountered all sorts of asshats. Only had one instance where someone outright tried to kill me, but plenty of interesting talking points and stupid crap happened on a daily basis. That one instance was enough for me to start wearing a camera all the time. I have a VRhold that was locked to the side of my helmet set to record on a loop. I only pulled the SD card if there was something I wanted to save or show someone. I had the quality set to give me about 3 hours of video to cover me for the day, and the battery would last for the round trip as long as I remembered to turn it off when I got to work. Then I plugged it in when i got home to recharge it, never even pulled the camera off the helmet. That was really the only hiccup. I would have much rather had a hard wired system that cycled ON/OFF with the bike power, but that was a few years ago when the GoPros and such were just getting popular. Interested to see what other have found out there and are using. |

Spherical cameras are getting better and cheaper. I was thinking one of those would be pretty good for this purpose. |

The few reviews of the K1 seem decent so I may order one. Probably end up test driving it in my car for a while to make sure it works. And the harley is not running at the moment. |

Greg, thank you. LOVE this thread. In this day and age we're really having issues with anyone understanding SAFETY. I'm really wanting to change jobs, simply to avoid my 50 mile round-trip to West Knoxville. I'm well aware that many of you (Matthew!!!) deal with greater threats. Why in the name of GOD don't we force the cell phone makers to kill the devices when moving over 10-15 MPH, unless they're confirmed hands-free?!?!?!!!! People, and children, are dying. |

Phones or not, the average driver is worse now than 10 years ago. Movies like Fast and Furious haven't helped the Speed Racer kids. And certainly the gangs of motorcycle retards out stunting the bikes on the highways and totally scoffing at the law because there is no way to stop them all. I had a group of middle school kids on bicycles decide that they were going to take over both lanes of a city road a couple weeks ago. These idiots grow up to by motorcycles and become an even larger menace for the rest of us. All of this nonsense is what I feel I need to capture to protect myself, car and bike. |

Phones DEFINITELY degrade driving skill. As for the F&*CKTRD bikers, I'd love to know if they understand "debrading". Oops... here ya go. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debridement |

Drivers are worse because the phone thing but also, the cars are safe like bumpercars. People crash all the time and then just get out unharmed. They need to know the pain is there waiting to keep them focused. Not to mention the drunk/high people. They just don't care anymore. |

That looks really nice. I might actually take the plunge to buy one of those for my car. My issue with something like that for the bike is that I have more than one bike. I had the same issue years ago when I was shopping for an audio/intercom system. In that case, I ended up with a Sena Bluetooth system and it has worked fantastic for me ever since. Now I see they are getting into the camera game too with the Sena 10C. They integrated their audio/intercom system with a helmet cam that can not only be used as a dash cam, but it also records the audio it picks up from the microphone inside your helmet. Weather that is music playing, you talking to yourself, or yapping with your riding buddies on the intercom. There is a good review of it over on web bike world. I'm impressed, and will most likely go that direction if/when life slows down a little and I can start putting real miles on my bike again. |

I wish I had a cam on the scooter a couple of days ago. Dang near got run over by an idiot in a hurry. I was on a two lane no passing road in a commercial area. I was coming up on a business driveway with a gal in a car waiting to pull onto the highway. She was yakking on the phone, and made two go-nogos as I was coming up, so I slowed down some and covered my brakes. There was oncoming traffic. Idiot behind me stands on the gas, goes around me and swerves back into the lane to avoid a head-on. Missed me maybe 18 inches. After he got around me in such a hurry, he went about a quarter mile and pulled into a business. Dang near killed me to save what, two seconds? I pulled in and took a pic of his vehicle and got his tag number, and called him in to the Highway Patrol. First time I have done that before. |

And that is the essence of why I'm spending the money, far too much of the same "stuff" happening around me. Doesn't matter if I'm in a car or on a motorcycle. Not sure the police will do anything, but I'm going to send them the videos when stuff like the above does happen. Assuming the Innovv K1 works well, there will be one in my car very soon after (or at least the cameras so I can plug the DVR in). |

That didn't cross my mind, but you are right.....once the extra cameras are mounted and the wires are run, you could swap the DVR back and forth between vehicles as needed. Thats a strong option as well. |

If it works well enough, I may end up with 4 cameras and 2 DVRs on my racebike. Supposed to run for 30 minutes on the internal battery which would get me through any sprint and probably two classes of sprints. |

Might work for racing: http://www.innovv.com/blog/category/Racing Camera placement fooled with the auto exposure on the front camera, and the windscreen had a big bend that wasn't helping either. But I'm not seeing jello so I think everything can be fixed by good placement and maybe a filter holder in front of the lens (which I can make). Looking promising and cheaper than any other racing HD recorder that I've found. Nothing really to log on my bike so not wanting those features. |

It didn't take long to get here, looks like a good design and looks to be well built. I'll have to update when I get time to strap it to a vehicle. |

If the weather is nice, I may strap it to the XB10R (1050 kit) and take it for a spin this weekend. Need to pull it out of the box and take a look at everything, will also probably lay all the cables out on my Harley and see what I can see. Either front lower fairing or rear top case is a likely location for this system. Not sure where to put it on my Buell, probably under the seat somewhere. |

Hmmm... Not sure I like that. Maybe it should be easier for them to get the phone records warrant when there is a crash. I can see these departments going through and checking your phones during their DWI checkpoints or the "safety" stops that some places set up for motorcycles. In short I see it getting abused. And the only way a device like that can work is through backdoors... Every phone must have some kind of back door built in that they can access... As far as the camera goes, going to mount on the front lightbar and on a bracket next to the license plate. DVR will need to go in the Tourpak which should also keep it dry and "locked" up during stops. Need to pick up a micro SDXC card after work. |
