I had the good fortune of being gifted a Chip McCormick 3.5lb single stage match trigger.
Fortuitously, the lower my wife likes happened to be on sale as a blemished item. Seemed like a good time to get one. It disappeared from the website soon after my order. Good timing.
Hers in OD green.
It'll be an approximate clone of this:
Instead of a pinned 14.5" I'll be using a Carlson "mini comp" on a 16" lightweight barrel.
Not quite as short, but about halfway there.
The plan is just completing the lower this year as I still have $500 left to pay on an upper and $65 in machine shop work needed (barrel cut, thread, and crown).
To gauge her feelings on it I told her it would be eight hundred to eight hundred fifty dollars and she just shrugged. That's a go as far as I'm concerned.
My latest lust is doing an SP5K in an AOW or SBR.
That's not going to happen anytime soon if at all, but I've always loved the gun. The SP5K has really re-ignited my interest.
Besides, telling her I already had a two thousand dollar gun on layaway to test the waters simply resulted in a contorted, low brow, angry look...so that's probably a no-go. I quickly reminded her that nothing else was on layaway.
Gee, ya think this well financed long term propaganda campaign to cast citizens who legally defend themselves against criminals as monsters and anti-social rebels against the wise collective masters, might belong in the Media Prostitute thread? ( please forgive any comparison to noble sex workers. Obviously they give value for money. Unlike CNN. Or politicians. )
From the BBC article: "a citizen can legally use lethal force if they feel that their life in is imminent danger."
What, you mean we are not required to just stand there and let them kill us? That would make it so that thugs couldn't make us give them anything they want. What about their feelings?
I made two crossbows in wood shop in high school, and carried a live 22 cartridge in the little "Levi's" tag on the back pocket of my jeans. This wasn't considered unusual, or a threatening gesture, at the time.
I usually wouldn't go for polymer but integrating the stock and buffer tube in one unit seems like a really good idea.
I would have preferred an A1 fixed stock...but it's not my gun. This uses a carbine buffer and spring which is a little harsher in recoil and a little more finicky than the rifle length buffer/spring. At least there are a lot of spring/buffer options for tuning.
I should take a picture of it...the inside of the magwell has a recycling symbol. Perfect.
When I was in school I brought a pocket knife with me until somebody stole it. A student got arrested and expelled for bringing a real gun to school. It was a tradition to have a squirt gun war before summer break. At my kids school they just did away with that. What a loss.
I had been looking into buying an unfinished hickory recurve bow, but a coworker gave me a beautiful Ben Pearson. I still haven't used it. I need to do something about that.
My wife's Canadian brother is always blowing up facebook with Occupy Democrats propaganda and ridiculous Bernie Sanders statements and quotes. These people often do not have even a rudimentary understanding of the topics they're so passionate about. They don't look much past the headlines, buzzwords, and sales pitches.
Why other countries want for us to be a regressive socialist society with such fervor escapes me.
Plus, they do not understand us. They think that everyone must think the way they do, ( like your Bro-in-law ) and just can't comprehend any other thought.
Now, I don't think they way they do, but I can see the attraction. It's easier, simpler, to be a subject than a citizen. You have obligations to your aristocracy, and they have obligations to you, and the feudal system worked just great in Europe for a thousand + years.... If you were an aristocrat.
And the sales pitch from the would be aristocracy is that it will be a people's world. A Worker's world. When, in fact, it always becomes a Master's world, and the people that support the system just replaceable, and expendable tools.
That's why I mock the Occupy folk as much as I do. Students trained to disrupt and be the cannon fodder for the Revolution are always the first up against the wall to be shot. Once you've taken power, you don't want trained revolutionaries that might try and take it back when your lies are laid bare.
In the end, Centrists, Citizens, want to discuss the issues to convince the leftists that they are right. Leftists want the Citizens to shut the hell up and are more than willing to kill them to stop heretical Ideas.
Leftism is really a religion. Revealed truth, a Jealous God, no factual basis, hatred for the Other as the core motivation.
“If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?” Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918-1956
Complex is right.
There will always be those who would be concentration camp guard. Even if you took all of ISIS, George Soros, and every member of Congress that would take your freedom, and sent them to a distant island, others would step up to take their place in the quest for power by hate.
I hold to the notion that the greatest individual freedom gives the best return overall. This freedom comes with responsibility.
Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. They would prefer that he didn't tell them where to go, or give them traffic tickets, or stand at the ready in our airports in camouflage fatigues holding an M-16. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, "Baa."
Until the wolf shows up. Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog.
Understanding this helps, a little. The right to keep and bear arms is always going to be under attack from those who would be wolves.
The American Experiment, the notion that the people can govern themselves, has always been a fragile thing. Under attack from those who think themselves your betters.
As the "journalist" said, it's their job to tell you what to think.
OTOH, we can laugh at the evil men who are traumatized at the noise and massive recoil of the AR-15. ( makes you want to hand them a .577 Tyrannosaur so you can see them cry )
I hold to the notion that the greatest individual freedom gives the best return overall. This freedom comes with responsibility.
Agreed. "Inequality" "inequity" and "social justice" are the buzzwords of socialists. We have equal opportunity. Results vary on the ability, work ethic, and ambition of the individual in a competitive world. The "progressives" scapegoat the "1%" while seeking to oppress everyone.

It's no accident those that seek to socialize our postsecondary education and healthcare while dumping ever increasing trillions into welfare programs, social programs, "climate science," and redistribute our tax dollars to other nations are also those that seek to limit the first and second amendments.
Very nice pistol, especially for $340 + FFL Transfer fee ($25 at local dealer here). Only possible negative is the 8 LB trigger pull. Didn't bother me a bit. I like the wrap-around smooth steel trigger.
It's amazing how the prices of guns and ammo have plummeted recently, right along with the rate of illegal immigration. Gee, I wonder why?
Prices are down because sales are down. Since the president hasn't promised (depending on the audience) to take away, or make illegal, certain firearms, the pressure to go get one while you can has subsided.
