Instead of sinking deep into your flesh, Chinese bullets simply make you jump, do a somersault, or front handspring.
China does make some pretty sweet war movies on occasion. I love "The Crossing" (taiping zhuan), 2014. The Taking of Tiger Mountain is a good movie, but in true Chinese spirit, the PLA (communist soldiers) are the valiant heroes, and the Republican Nationalists are the evil villains.
China makes a lot of cheesy... well, everything. They have their moments, but for the most part their products are a cheesy ripoff of western goods (or movies).
Braveheart. (I've done years of melee fighting, this movie captures the intensity nicely )
Act Of Valor. ( with real Navy Seals, this is, I am told, near perfect )
Gladiator. ( the opening battle scenes are great, including the use of ballista & catapults. )
A Bridge Too Far. ( absolutely the best parachute drop footage from the jumpers POV, and the river crossing scene is heart pounding )
Saving Private Ryan. ( I could go on about the authenticity and cinematography... but someone else did it better )
There are some more... including silly guilty pleasures like the balletic fighting in leather posing gear from "300", a film that was based on a comic based on a 1955 movie based on a 450 BC propaganda piece...
And, No. Greek Hoplites didn't fight bare chested. They were the most heavily armored guys on the battlefield in their day. 1/4 thick bronze breastplates and helmets made them the M1 tank of their day.
I hated "300" and that whole "spartan" culture that flourished around it. People just went nuts thinking that "spartans" were all metrosexual picture perfect spawns of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Zeus... and then thinking that they're somehow "spartans" too because they do crossfit or have "molon labe" stickers on their back glass.
13 Hours is one of the most legit "war" movies I've seen. I can't speak for the type of war that previous generations saw; I heard from veterans that Saving Private Ryan was pretty real.
I really liked "Fury" though I've never been in, or want to be in, a tank. I need to watch it again.
Flags... When my son was about 6-8 yo, We were driving through the countryside when, He spotted a flag with the word "HONEY" emblazoned, as an advertisement.
He said to me,"Do people fight for Honey flags too, Dad?
He could see, as plain as day; How stupid the battle is.
A time and place for everything under the sun. I would ride in a tank if there was no anti-armor threat in the AO. I'd ride in an aircraft carrier if there was no anti-aircraft carrier threat. However... in Germany during WWII... put that ruck on my back and those Leather Personnel Carriers on my feet and I'll be just fine, thank you.
