My whole house and half my coworkers ended up with the flu for the past week.
I was out Thursday and Friday. I spent the whole day Thursday shivering with a fever and vomiting. I thought I was good to go Friday. I got up for work, felt okay, took a shower, got dressed and it kicked my ass.
My 26 yo son had it first here. A lot of the guys he works with got it. He lives separately from us, but was more than willing to share. All of the school districts in the area have been closed for at least a week to contain it.
I am feeling a bit better today. Enough to upgrade my condition from 'looking up at the grass' to 'really sick'. I tried to work a bit. Made it through a half hour or so. Back to sleep. Now I got to contain this powerful coughing before I launch a rib through my shirt!
So the last time I limped into town to get supplies, I think it was Sunday, some fine upstanding citizen stole my current annual registration sticker off from my truck. This sucks on top of things that suck.
Now I await an officer to come to my place to fill out a police report so that it can be replaced for $5 vs $74 to just out and out buy a new one.
One of these times that I don't mind feeling like shit. If I felt good I would be pissed about wasting time that I should be doing stuff. Like going to pick up parts and such.
Lottery-smottery.....I can loose money with out buying those damn tickets! Just watch me! More than the $5 for the new sticker is the $10 in gas and two hours of business time to get it done.
Well it sounds like you're starting down the road to recovery! You certainly had enough problems without adding the flu to it! Don't push too hard to get better, I've had it backfire on me.
It's been warm and sunny here in the bay area the last 2 days. Sadly there are still too many mud flows, water flows and rocks in the road for a safe ride. Going to be like that for a while. Next week might be a good start since we are supposed to be getting some dry weather for more than a few days.
My friend has been trapped for over a week now. He actually fired up one of his kids dirt bikes to get to the store. He strapped on some milk crates to carry as much stuff as he could and now 2 of his neighbors have been borrowing that bike too. The CHP has been real forgiving too. The bike is not street legal, but they have been allowing them to use it for emergency access. Now all the local cops and CHP just wave at him.
We have a Nor'easter that's supposed to hit us on Tuesday. Intellicast is predicting 12+ inches accumulation with wind gusts of 40+ MPH. My feeling toward Winter are the same:
I got spoiled with the warm riding weather. It will reach a high of 32 today. A friend of mine parked his Indian with an S&S engine about 2 years ago and says it is up to his kids to do something with it. He has reached that age health wise where he says his riding days are behind him. There are deeper reasons too. I understand why. He had me over the other day and asked me to remove the plug for his heat controller from the bike. There were a couple more wire issues once I got in there. So, we went to the store for parts. I fixed the electrical issues and buttoned it back up. He hands me a large bag as I was leaving. I put it in the jeep and made a run to Indianapolis. It was 2 days till I got a chance to look in the bag. There was the wiring I removed from the Indian, a Gerbing dual heat controller, jacket, socks, and gloves. All were my size and new in the packages with tags still on them. There was something else in there too. Remind me to tell you about it some time. I may try to install the wiring plug on Lil Red today.
Wind storm with 81 mph gusts killed power to 150k people wed. 50K+ still out. Hopefully power back Sunday for most. Temps dumped Fri night & about a foot of snow this morning.
My more elderly than me parents are heating with fireplace and portable generator.
I picked up about a quarter face cord for them from a buddy at midnight last night just as the snow started. If I'd waited till morning it would have been bad.
I'm looking forward to it, actually. I love snow, and we haven't had squat this year. Especially since I have all of a 1/2 mile commute to my current jobsite (the apartment I'm renovating). I suspect I'll take a "long way" to the apartment, and slide the ol' XJ Cherokee around a bit just for grins on Tuesday morning
Mark - have we met? Your profile says Taneytown - I'm just the other side of Thurmont, in Cascade...we should ride sometime.
Still 50K without power. The local power company website promises the folks will have power 11:59 pm monday. 15 f outside.
I'm very sympathetic for the power crews, from as far away as Michigan. Thankful too. Brutal weather to work up in the air. At least the winds have died down they were still 40 mph Sat.
Ratbuell , we have not. In the process Of relocating across the border to pa. As soon as I'm settled I can get my bike Back together and we should definitely hook up.
Some nice roads in the area. Look forward to some wormer weather !
Parents & friends got power back Sunday evening. There were still 8k without power this morning, and the crews have done a great job. Lots of tree & house damage and a house burned down with 2 casualties 2 blocks from parents. Police say it was accident & listed several probable causes. Could have been worse.
Just started snowing here. 4-15 inches predicted depending on lake effect. A hunker down week.
They have canceled the "Blizzard Warning" (which technically requires 3 hours of lo-viz and windy conditions) but I'm getting a good amount here . . .
Fortunately . . . this gives me a chance to try the new monster truck that's been sitting in the barn for 3 months . . . I bought it just for days like this and I am scheduled to patrol overhead transmission lines in the Hudson Valley from 1900-0700 tonight. Could be fun . . I have enough survival, repelling, first aid, axes, limb saws and rubber gloves to have the entire back seat full. Could be a wild night.
