Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Gone as far as I can go until I get more parts! Gee, it's just like being back at work! I need a beer... |

The miracle of mounting pipes. You need to clean your glasses Greg. The header end is not matching up to your head ports to good. Perhaps the beer is for after the installment! You know that is going to pop on deceleration! |

I own a crow bar, it'll fit! Seriously though, I've been chasing intake leaks forever on this engine. There's a lot of money in those heads but after torquing them down they pull crooked and the air cleaner mounts don't line up. I've been fighting this for a loooong time! I think I finally figured it out. The head bolts have left an impression in the aluminum and as you torque it down they pull into the impression and twist the head. As an experiment I put some heavy washers under the head bolts and took it to 16 ft./lbs. and everything is still lined up so I think I'm good. I'm going to get some 14mm stainless washers, because they fit the spot face perfectly, and use them. I could remachine them but I'd rather use the washers. I just got my carburetor back from Bob Wood and put it on but after two sets of seals it's still leaking so I tore it back down. I'm also putting in an Axtell relief valve in the cam plate. I really like their new design. I even bought some Oberon intake seals from Twin Motorcycles. I'm hoping getting everything to line up along with the new flanges will finally cure this POS! If not I'll trade it in on a new Indian! |

I really like the Dark Horse. I just might pick up a used one in a couple of years. I love how they made the rocker lids look like the old flatheads. Z |

I have a friend who got a Dark Horse and it is a good looking machine. Unfortunately he ran into money problems and had to sell it. While at my friend the engine builder's place I noticed he had a Switchback in for service. Looked like something I'd be interested in when I get too old to hold up the Road Glide! The Twin Cam motors have issues but you can make a good engine out of one, you just have to tear it all the way down and replace the crank, oil pump, cam bearings, lifters and install gear drives on the cams and it's bullet proof! That's all! |

Ouch. I think I would still just rather have a single cam Evo "80. I'm still baffled as to why Hurdly-Durdley hasn't put the Vrod motor into something worth owning. Seems like a well-sorted engine. Why not a touring rig? Why not a sportster-standard type of thing? |
