Historically it's not at all unusual for a cult leader to be torn down by his followers when the apocalypse doesn't happen on schedule or the Promised Land is a malarial swamp.
But the above cases are just the big obvious fails and the coup often quiet and hidden. Tragic death from "natural causes" is popular, since that keeps the power structure going for his "heirs" and avoids messy and disruptive murder charges. Thus both the Charismatic Leader and his loyal ones tend to be unfortunate victims in the coup.
And more often still, the cult just shatters into smaller groups and bitter individuals, who abandon the cult and flee. The big Jim Jones style mass suicide event is a relatively rare thing.
Morning Joe's cultists are unlikely to gather in his compound and mass suicide. It's not that kind of isolated group. Most will seek another guru on tv to put their misguided faith in. There may be a lot of suicides among his followers, ( high percentage of sick people ) but they'll get blamed on Trump or Depression unrelated to Joe & Mika.
No, it's not so dramatic as a Scientology or Heaven's Gate or Jonestown. It's last season Game of Thrones. Poor writing, falling ratings, gloom, lots of jobs gone.
This isn't new. The job of political hate promoting often goes poorly over time as cultures and governments change.

Babylon Bee and Snopes fact checking satire.
I like the Bee "poll" showing many believe Snopes is a fact checking org.
And I get a big laugh, obviously unintended, from the Snopes "poll" that shows Social Media people are too dumb or crazy to get something is satire. Flawed methodology or outright lie to make a statement is debatable, unless someone at Snopes leaks the truth. What makes it funny, is it's believable that Social Media people are so lacking in awareness.
Funnier still, unlike The Bee who deliberately is trying to be funny, the Snopes guys think it makes them more credible and important that their viewers are ignorant fools. |

The New York Times seems to have decided to tell a tiny bit of truth in an article full of lies, mostly about numbers ( deliberately low & misleading ) and policies. ( still lying that Just Joe* did anything useful or legal ) Just enough truth to lie convincingly.
But it's more truth out of the NYT than I've heard of in years, so golf clap and perhaps a go fund them page to get them a free one way ticket to Damascus, which is lovely this time of year. |

Did you know that the affordable care act added a tax on top of capital gains for people making over a certain unadjusted income? It's not in the millions. It was targeted not at the rich who get their revenue from capital gains, but the hard working folks with jobs who also invest for their retirement. Thanks, democrats. |

They didn't bravely storm a fortress prison and free anyone. They negotiated access with wanted terrorists to get some "aren't we awesome?" video and they're so ignorant they'd never know if it was " literally Hitler" they bragged about.
Of course, the CNN crew probably only know Hitler as a title their script tells them to call Trump & Republicans. |

There's a lot of legal argument on free speech. The "shout fire in a theater" argument, I point out, is about a Lie that might cause harm in a panic, trampling, people crushed in a scramble, etc.
Well, they lie about Trump, A Lot, to get an emotional irrational reaction, so that tracks... But I think that "exception" doesn't really apply to White House Lies, in the crowded theater sense.
However...
In street level law, NOT academe or political speech, and not Woke Tyranny "speech is violence" censorship, there are long established Laws on speech and violence.
If some Yahoo ( pronouns optional ) yells insults at me, the elderberry smell of my Father! Verbally farting in my general direction!, that's not justification for me to beat the Yahoo with my fists or a handy object. He's got a right to be insulting.
( yes, there are cultural pockets where punching someone for insults is more acceptable, but that's not current Law generally in the U.S. )
If the same Yahoo instead yells that they are going to harm me ( "f#$% you up" & "kill you" being pretty solid ) only then am I allowed to use physical violence. And Only if I can convince the Court that I had "credible" fear of harm.
Example, it's a small child not carrying a weapon, it's not very credible. 
While an adult threatening to murder people, say trapped with him in a subway car, may be a credible threat, unless a Soros Sponsored traitor to his oath Prosecutor wants to use your case to ruin civilization and take away rights, as recently seen.
By their own standards of threat assessment of dangerous language, the White House, the cute lesbian, and a lot of Congresscritters, use terms to describe their Enemies that is "violent hate speech" and thus worthy of physical defensive response. Not legally! But in their own cult, their common excuse.
By the Liberal & rational standards of U.S. rights, though, it's not acceptable to call for violence against them for trying to whip the mob into a killing frenzy, ( see the 2020 Summer of Love riots ) or assassinate their Enemies. ( see the Republican Congressional softball team attack and the 2 admitted assassination attempts on Donald this year )
To use their own Alinsky tactics of violent rhetoric and Lies against them, "use their own rules against them", is immoral, kinda by definition.
I'm not sure what the law is on orbital kinetic strikes... |
